DONT GIVE UP THE SHIP
Perry's Victory & International Peace Memorial stands for two purposes:
- (1.) To remember Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry and the men who fought alongside him in the Battle of Lake Erie during the American War of 1812
- (2.) To celebrate the international peace that began at the end of that war, when the United States, Great Britain and Canada set aside their weapons with the Treaty of Ghent in 1814 --- a peace that has lasted for nearly two hundred years and has created the world's longest friendly border between two nations (the US and Canada).
