I buy stuff for my dog here and the service is always great. I was able to return a toy that my dog completely destroyed within 5 minutes, and was able to get another toy better suited for him. Would highly recommend this place.
I love Pet Valu! I have 2 dogs; one eats everything the other is fussy. It feels like I have taken back more food than I have purchased but they are always so helpful in trying to find something that fussy paws will eat. Really great service - and good selection!

I agree with the statement about bettas it is extremely upsetting to see so many stores keeping animals in such small tanks could you imagine being kept in a small empty room with only enough room to walk in a circle your whole life? More stores need to get involved in changing this and spreading more info about their proper care by example. Staff seem friendly but i will not spend money here unless i see a change.

The staff are always friendly when we’re buying food and treats but this week we went to use the pet wash with our smelly dog and it’s the best $10 I’ve spent in ages. So nice to have a clean dog and not have to scrub my bathroom walls afterwards and they made the process very easy.
The store is typically well taken care of and clean. There is usually a well stock of what they carry. On a customer's perspective, the employees are knowledgeable about certain topics but very lacking in knowledge of other topics such as pet care that is not from their personal experience. From a employees perspective, do not work there. The policies change from time to time,scheduling time off was typically a pain, and trying to educate coworkers on pet care when the training videos didn't do justice was very exhausting. There needs to be more education on a corporate level, and there needs to be policies put in place, and certain people need to be educated on how to properly talk to a employee. I worked as the fish care expert and was the main caretaker for sick betta fish. The company that ship these bettas are twisted people, they ship them in smaller bags then their body, and often they are injured from transport from man handling. We had a fish die from its body being crushed by the bag when it was closed together. Not acceptable. The managers also did not care about the fishes lives. There was such a lack of knowledge about betta fish, and when educated, they decided to ignore facts and continue to let sick fish die at the back of the store, not treating them with medication. They also get flushed alive. If you are looking to work for a pet store because you love animals and want to help customers, do not work here. Volunteer at a shelter, get involved with wildlife rescues, or work in another pet store. In the end, we were never a "pet expert" and that is never what we should be classed as. We are a pet store employee, a retail worker. We should not be pressured to be experts if we were never given the training. This company in particular encourages untrained advice on pet care. This is dangerous. Another thing to note is that I was sick and was required to go to work regardless if someone was able to fill my shift or not. While this is the case in many companies, its unacceptable in a time of covid. I worked here for a full year and will not give my money to this family owned company again. They do not care about their employees. Attached is a picture of bettas dying from ammonia poisoning due to improper care. These cups should be cleaned twice weekly dosed with ammonia neutralizer, and when I joined, it was done maybe once a week, with only water conditioner.
