My first negative experience was about a year ago at this petsmart location. My cats prescription food was out of stock on chewy, and according to petsmarts website, they had it in stock at this store. So I bought it for pickup. When I got there I was told they had to order it first and then they would let me know when it would arrive at the store and it should take at most 5 days. That isn’t what the website said but alright mistakes happen. Five days pass I still haven’t heard from them. I call and they say they still haven’t received it and there’s no estimate on when it will arrive. It took almost two weeks to come in. Just went there to buy some fresh cat grass, my cat loved it. Less than 48 hours later I discover when I take it out of the pot it is covered in mold near the soil. I was pretty upset because that could’ve made my cat very sick. Makes me wonder how many pots of cat grass they sell with mold in it and how many peoples cats are ingesting it. Unless you plan on adopting an animal here who needs a loving home, don’t get supplies here. Petco is a better option.
Usually really crowded, but rarely have trouble finding what I need. Their adoption events are great and I had an awesome experience with the groomers who bathed our puppy. They said she was very well behaved and afterward she smelled great and had a cute bandana! Definitely will continue to use their grooming services.
My dogs always love to come here and they're always treated great. I wish the pet hospital there was a bit faster but still is pretty great. Plus the dog adoptions that go on here. One of the best places to get a dog at.
Love the free photos for your pet with Santa at my local PetSmart - everything except for this year it was a female Santa a mute female Santa that didn't say a word the guy was more dog friendly and outgoing he should have been the Santa not a female who is miserable and doesn't say a word. Also thought they take the photos this year I had to snap photos myself .
REGARDING ADOPTION: To those looking to adopt, you will see in other reviews that there are complaints. Do NOT adopt here. You may as well go to a pet store puppy mill. The rescue organization or pack, sells unfixed pets with very little research on adopter which is concerning for the dogs. At 500/per pet with 60 pets thats tens of thousands of dollars. No wonder they can drive expensive cars. Its nothing but transporting pets from puppy mill concentrated areas up here and selling under the guise of "rescue" Another review stated they werent told the history of the pet. Of course not, when they are picked in bulk and shipped! Caring consumers think they are saving a life but the truth now is that people who desire to profit as pet store owners are just operating as rescues. Theres VERY FEW in CT that are on the forefront of rescue and those are BARC CT, monkeys pack, Halfway Home, Project precious. Not even Humane Society is good anymore but at least they are fixing the pets first so the problem isnt yours after. This is a NO for me and Petsmart shouldve done their research 1st!
Staff are nice and knowledgeable. The animals are treated well and look healthy and their tanks/cages are well maintained without being extremely overcrowded which is better than most pet stores we’ve been to
I tried to place an order for a prescription food on their site. Having worked a lot of retail jobs with buy online pick up in store options, I got a little concerned when it had been over two hours with no email saying it was ready for pickup. I called and asked typically how long it would take. The store manager answered that it takes 3-5 days for it to get approved by the system as it will check with my vet to see if it is legit. It says that nowhere on the site, but I can't be mad at the individual store for issues with the overall company. The store manager then told me there is a way to circumvent this which is to just not order through their site and come into the store with the prescription instead. My cat only had enough food for the day and if it wasn't for the store manager being open, honest, and kind I probably would have been sadly feeding him basic canned food until Saturday which would have been dangerous. Also, the only way to cancel the order I placed online is to call, which is inconvenient but again, not the fault of this location. Aside from this experience, I've also had overall good experiences at this location. I thought I had been converted to Petco as they have okocat brand litter and tikicat products. While the experiences T petco's Manchester location haven't been awful, I will say I had some unpleasant feelings about what I was seeing also, I have never seen their grooming shop open. I was ecstatic going into PetSmart to find they not only carry okocat now, but the pink label one which my cat and I prefer, and tiki cat! The only other main negative that I have, I don't see as this store's doing. The parking lot is a nightmare and sometimes the Starbucks drive through line goes through the lot, blocking traffic. No one seems to have concern for others and pedestrians will walk right in front of moving cars without a care. I'm overall pleased and will be staying with PetSmart for the foreseeable future.
I frequently go to this store as I have a lot of different animals, basically have a small zoo in my house lol. I love this store! Everyone is always very nice and helpful, they are also very knowledgeable. I love that they recognize us, mostly by one or more of our pets, and we are always made yo feel welcome. They never look down on you in any way and no question is ever a stupid question. Out of all the big name pet stores this is definitely my go to.
We had a great experience here purchasing a new reptile. The staff were pretty busy but did a great job helping us and juggling other customers at the same time. We were able to get everything we needed here plus it was at least $30 cheaper on a few large priced items. We ended up leaving another pet store to come here because they not only didn't have much available on the shelf for accessories but they also didn't have many staff available to help. I'm really glad we ended up here it worked out better then expected
I booked an appointment for my pit bull terrier for a bath and nail trimmed. They ask you the breed of your dog and size when you are booking the appointment online. I get there to check him in and give them his rabies papers. I bring him in yes he has a leather soft muzzle on, he gets excited and I didn’t want anyone to feel threatened, so when we are out in public he does wear one. The workers immediately gave me dirty looks and huddled around 1 of the dogs they were grooming. My dog was laying on the floor , it was cool to him because it was so hot outside. There was a worker with pink hair , I didn’t catch her name because I was so infuriated. She said for the safety of the other dogs they were not allowed to take him because he doesn’t look like he would be good with other dogs and they are not allowed to wear muzzles in the back. This was the worst discrimination I have ever experienced in my life. My dog was judged the minute he walked in the door. I will definitely never go back there or recommend to anyone.
