Pine Hill Cemetery was built in June 1842 due to a need for burial plots. What few plots were still available in Westfield were restricted to specific faiths and races. The people rallied together and founded Pine Hill as an all inclusive cemetery that did not discriminate based on race, wealth, faith, or background. For the past 175 years, Pine Hill has stood as a picturesque local where well known figures, such as Governor Joseph B. Ely, and humble men, women, and children have been laid to rest. A scattering garden where families can spread the ashes of their loved ones as well as a monument to our nations veterans, many of whom fought in the Civil War, stand as a testament to the welcoming nature that is Pine Hill Cemetery.
