The Town of Pine Knoll Shores Fire & EMS Department is a combination career/volunteer department.
The Town of Pine Knoll Shores Fire & EMS Department is a combination career/volunteer department. We provide fire suppression, education, and prevention. We also provide emergency medical services, water rescue, and natural disaster response.The Pine Knoll Shores Fire & EMS Department is comprised of career paid firefighter/EMTs and volunteer firefighters and EMTs. There are 30 members in the department. The department has three shifts of paid firefighter/EMTs with three per shift.
The department responds to fires, hazardous material spills, water rescues and natural disasters within the Pine Knoll Shores town limits; automatic aid to the Salter Path Volunteer Fire District and Town of Atlantic Beach; and mutual aid to Emerald Isle, Morehead City and Beaufort. The department also provides Advanced Life Support ambulance services to the Town of Pine Knoll Shores
The department holds its monthly business meeting on the second Monday night of each month at 7:00 p.m. Monthly department training is the third and fourth Monday nights of each month at 7:00 p.m. The department also conducts mutual department training with Atlantic Beach Fire Department and participates in other county-wide and Carteret Community College sponsored fire and EMS training.
The Town of Pine Knoll Shores adopted the National Fire Code and state fire code in August 1992, which mandates that the Town of Pine Knoll Shores will adhere to national and state fire standards. For Fire and Rescue Training, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the US Department of Labor's Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), and the NC Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) mandate required training standards. For medical training, the US Department of Transportation, OSHA, the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS), and the Carteret County Medical Director mandate required training standards. The Pine Knoll Shores Fire and EMS Department has adopted the North Carolina EMS, Fire and Rescue certification programs as the standard for certifying personnel. Pair firefighters for Pine Knoll Shores must be certified in North Carolina as a Firefighter II, Rescue Technician, and Emergency Medical Technician. Additional certifications are required as the firefighter gains longevity in the department.
