We have been full timers for over 3 years now. If you have been to Pio Pico or Oakzanita, we might have met. We have a Great Dane, Jenny, and a cat who walks with her on a leash. Many people enjoy taking pictures and commenting on our "horse". We have made such wonderful new friends through Thousand Trails. Follow us on dawnsdiaryandbucketlist on TikTok Dawn Littlefield, public figure on Facebook. Is Thousand Trails perfect? Far from it. Internet is difficult to get. Which is why we have starlink now. The freedom we have to go anywhere is just wonderful. We definitely enjoy our stays better without the stress of finding the perfect spot. It's difficult to get reservations because the calendar online blocks you from one or two days. This leaves you calling rangers and reservations trying to make plans. And it's crowded on holidays. But we love it. We love the people who put on events and activities. We love the rangers that check us in. We love the man who makes sure our trash is always picked up. We especially love the people cleaning up after us. You are the unsung, unseen heros that let us have fun. But I see you. And you are appreciated. We lost so much during the pandemic. Thousand trails offered us a way to raise our little girl in a safe, affordable community. It's turned into her second family. No one can afford housing anymore so this is a blessing not many can afford. We know how lucky we are. From Christmas to Easter holidays or buying from vendors at the clubhouse on weekends. This is a community worth being part of. If you visit, please stop by. We always make time for family.
We camped in our 5th wheel. Very limited cell service, so we couldn't look up things to do in the area. It was pretty hot, so we took advantage of the activity center, took a hike, played miniature golf, flew our kites. The pool looked clean and inviting. Found a winery about 20 minutes away to taste wine.Location: 2/5
Super nice place to be. Like everywhere in San Diego, the place is crowded and definitely not quiet. There are certain areas that are quieter than others but no full hook ups. Overall, it is a decent place.Service: 3/5
Great location with plenty of large spots. Full hookups are scarce and mostly in full sun with little privacy. We enjoyed the space size of the south side and used the available bathroom and showers to avoid having to empty the tanks, although they also offer frequent honey-wagon services too. Wifi is ok at the bathrooms, clubhouses, and pools. It was nice to have zero service at the camp site to unplug a bit. We visited the Oakzanita Springs Thousand Trails while exploring the area and were very happy to have chosen Pio Pico instead, especially for the kids.
If you want to "disconnect" and relax this is a great place to do it. We got in on a Thursday afternoon and the more desireable south side of the park was completely filled because it's a great place. We went to the north side with the intention of moving to the south when a spot opened up, but like it over here and won't be relocating. There's infrastructure issues with the Jabba wi-fi available on the north side in section G. We're about 50 feet away from an access point and it's generally providing 10mbps download speed but inexplicably drops down to 20/30kbps. The service sold is metered--you can buy 5 or 10mpbs speed; hunch is there's a bad antenna lead that causes reliability issues when it's moved by the wind. Suggest setting your wi-fi to 2.4ghz to help out. A word about the staff: They're genuine. Most are very friendly and all are helpful in their own way. I really doubt any of them want to make your stay less enjoyable than it might be.
My family and I had a wonderful time at this resort. They have clean pools and many activities to keep the kids busy. My kids loved Ms. Lori, thank you for making sure they didn’t miss any fun and keeping them smiling during our entire vacationRooms: 5/5
Our first campground in California. The side of the park that had sewer was full so we had to stay across the street. Nice views of the mountains but it is in a valley so it had pretty bad cell service and the complimentary Wi-Fi at the bathrooms was very slow. Only stayed until our tanks filled up.Rooms: 5/5
This is a hikers' paradise as beautiful mountains and trails surround the park, however, it's a parking free-for-all! You check in at the gate--there's no need to get out of your vehicle. The man at the gate was very nice and helpful. There are no assigned sites and the north side has no sewer hookups or laundry facilities. So most people try get a spot on the south side on a first-come, first-served basis. They also charge $10 per package for deliveries which is outragous. Cell service is pretty much nonexistent. Also, the main road floods during a rainstorm and has to be closed which resulted in us staying an extra night. I don't think we'll be returning.
This property is about 45 minutes east of the Chula Vista area. During a heavy rain, one or more of the roads could be under water or even closed. TTPP is so close to the Mexico border that the presence of border patrol is constant with vehicles and helicopters. We experienced no problems. The sites are spaced nicely however it’s first come first served. You can enter as early as 9am with check out by noon. There is a general store on property as well as a grill with breakfast and lunch on certain days. There are two swimming pools and hot tubs. A couple of activity centers with pool tables and other activities like miniature golf. There is a lake nearby to fish and a sky diving business if your into that. Overall, a great stay.
It is in a valley so no cell service at all Free wifi is available at the recreation center, and oddly enough at the bathrooms on the south side park is split in two by otay lakes road North side has full hookup sites, hard to find an open space when checking in, in the morning hours. Sometimes one gets lucky as one camper is leaving as you are entering so you might be able to take the space they vacated. Otherwise you need to get on the waiting list and park on the south side for a minute. The next morning at 10-11 am is when you can check availability to move over to an open space on the north side. Check with the rangers when you check in as the process might be slightly different. Otay lake is close Eastlake has shopping about 8-10 miles away Walmart Von’s Costco etc. In the other direction is Jamul and there is a pizza place and a farm fresh fruit stand too two gas stations one is a 7-11 across from fruit stand further down the road is a large shopping center with Albertsons and many restaurants. If you like camping in a remote area this is a good spot. One thing many people find annoying is the border patrol helicopters, I got used to hearing them. Happy camping!! It’s not the Ritz Carlton it’s a campground and a pretty nice one at that
