Pirate: Contemporary Art is a member operated contemporary cooperative art space showing the best of local non-represented artists.
Pirate is one of the city’s oldest member run art cooperatives. We opened our doors on January 1, 1980, and have been delivering a unique brand of skull-and-crossbones flair to the local scene ever since. The idea of Pirate began with a conversation between a group of friends and like-minded people who had recently graduated from Metropolitan State. There was much speculation about their place in the gallery world. At the time, there were few commercial galleries showing good contemporary art in Denver so they decided to start their own. This led to the creation of an art oasis where contemporary ideas could be shown. All these years later we are still showing some of the best artists in Denver metropolitan area.
