Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital

About

Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care.

Description

The staff of the Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital has been caring for animals in the Berkshire community for more than 40 years. In the Fall 2003, the hospital relocated its full service facility to its newly constructed 10,000 square foot building located on five acres of land behind the old hospital. The new hospital provides complete state-of-the-art health care in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local practices when special diagnostic procedures are required. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house x-ray capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and indoor boarding kennels with outdoor walking areas.

At Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital we strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn't feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy.

Pittsfield Veterinary is great! My dog, Blue hates going to the vet and is a shelter pup, so he's very nervous around other animals. The Vets and staff here are amazing, friendly, and just all around the sweetest people ever. Blue and I highly recommend.
DR.Michelle Looney, and her assistant Julie fit me into there very busy schedule with a emergency with my dog. They were both amazing, explained everything they did,I was perfectly happy with everything, and so was my baby Rubble
Pittsfield veterinary Hospital has an incredibly talented group of doctors. All are great to work with. The staff is just as talented. If you call on the phone, your phone call is actually answered very professionally and you’re not put on hold and forgotten. When you go there, you and your pet are well taken care of.
I took my dog here two weeks ago on a Saturday because she wasn’t feeling well. She wouldn’t walk, she wasn’t eating or drinking water. She was panting and very lethargic. The morning of her appointment I finally got her to eat something and drink. I drove her to this place and she wanted to walk so I let her, thinking she would go to the bathroom. I called ahead to let them know I arrived and they told me I could come in any time. At this point I was still outside with my dog. About five minutes later a vet Tech with tattoos on her arms came out and told me that they are behind schedule and need to get my dog inside. I picked up my dog and brought her in. The vet tech with tattoos asked several questions. Then another vet tech came in with the Veterinarian Maddie. Again vet Maddie asked several questions related to what my dogs diet consists of, she checked her eyes, temp etc. Checked her heart and asks if she always had a heart murmur. I answered yes since birth. Then she told me what to do with my dogs diet. Feed her chicken, the same thing we had been feeding her. Then she left and the vet tech took my dog to clip her nails. I pointed out a specific nail that needed to be clipped because she was limping. When the vet tech came back I asked if they would run some tests. The vet tech told me to come back if my dog was throwing up. Basically come back when it’s too late. The whole visit felt rushed like they were just pushing me through the door. I pay the bill and take my dog home. She was tired, but feeling better and at this point I assumed maybe it really was just an upset stomach, but she was acting different. Two days later Monday my mother took my dog to the vet to get her nails clipped more because she was limping and the nail I specifically pointed out was not clipped. At this point I hadn’t seen my dog since the day I took her in to get checked as I live and work in a different state. By the next Monday my mother had to bring my dog back to this place because at this point she had stopped walking, eating and drinking and was puking. It turns out she had a tumor on her heart. The tumor had grown so big it became uncomfortable for her to breathe and she was bleeding internally. Something that could have been found on the Saturday that I brought her in. I had to talk to Veterinarian Maddie on the phone while she offered a surgery that would only potentially save my dog for a few days if it even worked. She said that because she had a tumor on heart, no one would risk that difficult type off surgery to remove the tumor. When I asked her why this couldn’t have been looked at the last week I brought my dog in, she started getting defensive. I wanted for her to be comfortable and relieved of her pain so she was euthanized. I didn’t want to put her through any more stress and I knew that surgery wouldn’t improve her quality of life. I wanted to be there for my dog, but instead I was away. I never got the chance to say goodbye. I would have liked to save my dog from ever having to die that way. Stressed out and in pain on a metal table. If they had ran tests when I asked for their help then this could have been avoided. I could have at least planned for her to be euthanized before it became so unbearable for her. My dog didn’t deserve that. I’m sure there are some wonderful vets and vet techs that work at this place, but the ones I had to deal with were extremely unsympathetic and unhelpful. I brought my dog in for help two weeks ago, the last time I ever saw her and today shes back home as a pile of dust. I felt there was no compassion from anyone I encountered during my visit and I’m left devastated.
I really love this vet however an ex boyfriend made the first appointment and suddenly he is the owner? I have documentation of me adopting, paying, and ownership of the dog. I have brought, paid for every visit and still I am not the legal owner? Yeah this needs to be changed and hopefully I can talk to a suit/owner....would give no stars if possible... It's been over 4 months and still no reply...so sad how they treat people who pay their salary. Banx deserves much better...as does everyone's fur babies..good luck
We have been clients for 10 years for our dogs. This is a very competent and friendly practice. Over the years some of the Vets have come and gone, however we have always been pleased with whomever we deal with.
On 7/15/2023 I had to have by baby Walter put to sleep. I spoke with a careing woman on the phone who took the time to explain my options and then arranger for Walter to be seen within the hour. Even though Walter had never been seen there they took him in. I found all the staff there as careing and supportive as the woman on the phone. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a vet who will care for your pet as it was their own.
This is the best place I have ever brought my cat to. They are friendly, knowledgeable, very helpful and sympathetic. I could say more about this bet but it would be a book my rank from 1-10 is a 10..love this place
My wife and I had an incredible experience here after a tough situation. Our shepherd got into an extended fight w another dog and it sent us and the other owner's dog to a 24 hour emergency clinic. We waited for a little over 11 hours for minimal medical attention. Since the sun was coming up and Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital was about to open we called and explained. They understood and although they too are extremely busy they had us come in. The detail of inspection and communication was superb. Their overall demeanor and focus kept our hurt dog and me calm after an incredibly long and stressful ordeal. Thank you to Doc Devereaux and the whole staff. We're grateful.
Our Bailey loves to stay at the Resort. They take excellent care of him, he has a place to run and play with other dogs-his favorite! We are so pleased with their Veterinary care and their boarding. We wouldn't go anyway else. Dr. Looney has taken care of our Bailey since we adopted him 7 years ago. The second day we had him he came down with double pneumonia. He was very sick. If it wasn't for Dr. Looney's expertise, guidance and care, he wouldn't have made it. We were very grateful. Our Bailey is a love and we would have been heartbroken if we had lost him. I have complete confidence in Dr. Looney and the staff at Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital. They have gone through a tragic loss with the death of Dr. Reynolds. However, they are doing a wonderful job recouping. We wouldn't go anywhere else. I know Bailey gives them 4 paws up!
