Plato's Closet® is all about being fashion savvy and shopping smart. We specialize in gently used clothes and accessories for teen and twenty something girls and guys. All stores are independently owned franchises.

At Plato's Closet® you'll find a huge selection of trendy, designer styles as well as those every day basics you can't live without - all at up to 70% off mall retail prices!

Our stores buy and sell girls sizes 0/1 to 15/16 and guys size 28 to 38 waist. The gently used clothing and accessories that we buy are: top-name brands, cool, hip, trendy, and clean. Typically we buy items that have been in the retail stores within the past 12 to 18 months.

Our process is quick and easy:

Honestly I have tried and tried to give this place a chance. Today I went to sell clothes- first off, they have flyers in store that say specifically what they are looking for each season and I used this to narrow down what I wanted to try to sell. One of the accessories on here is claw clips, was told that they do not take claw clips even after I pointed out that they have advertised that they are looking for them?? Okay, that’s fine. Truly not a big deal. Next, I’m told I have to wait in store while they do my buy, which has never happened before. I asked if I could wait in my car right out front. No. Okay cool, maybe new policy? However I am also looking at multiple bins with buys on the shelf, mind you there are about two other people in the store and one is even labeled picking up at the end of the day? Also a lady came in after me with a buy and was not told that she needed to stay and wait. Anyways, so as i’m standing awkwardly waiting for my buy at least give the customers somewhere to sit if you’re going to make them wait in the store, i’m watching her not even unfold most of my clothes to even look at them. Just simply placing them to the side, still folded. I would understand not accepting my things if they were actually looked at. The final thing that led me to even leaving this review is that when she was done, I was offered $7 for a pair of jeans and a tank top. 2 items out of approximately 30. The reasoning was “We could not take most things because we are currently overstock. Maybe try to bring in shoes next time” ….. Why was this not communicated at the beginning of the buy? I would not have wasted my time standing in your store. I would rather have the generic wear and tear reasoning that they always give. Also, if you are overstocked with current season items which is what I provided because I knew they were not buying summer clothes anymore, based on their flyer then why are you accepting buys at all. I fully do not expect every item that I bring in to be bought, as I understand the risk of selling at any consignment shop. However I will say I feel the staff should do better at communicating and keeping expectations the same for everyone.
Plato’s is the best place for cheap stuff i bought two outfits today for 50$ and usually it’s like 80$, the clothes are super cute, good clothes for petite sizes. expect i bought this REALLY cute top that went with some sweatpants i got also, but somehow after i looked at my outfits when i got home, it wasn’t in the bag i really hope no one bought it :
I will never shop here again I stood at the dressing room for about 10 min after they let the lady in front of me in watched me the entire time every time I turn around a worker would be near me putting something up on the rack but I had stand that long to be let in the dressing room. Get to the register the cashier grabs my money with her thumb & index finger as if it was wet or something on it. The cashier puts my change on the counter an sends me on my way with no bag even though it was just a shirt I still would have liked a bag. Never will I shop here again
They gave me $9 for three items that were probably worth a bit more. What annoys me is they rejected nice things Ralph Lauren button down that were in new or like new condition claiming “there were some signs of wear.” As if nothing else in there has signs of wear? This place is a RIP OFF for most things. They severely undervalue everything wether it’s new or used, no matter the condition. The staff is perfectly nice, though. Update: bought a pair of Ultra Boosts here about 6 weeks ago. Have worn them only a few times. Went to tie them and the plastic cage that holds the laces broke. This place’s return policy is laughable. The shoe BROKE and they wouldn’t even give me a store credit even with proof of purchase. PLEASE AVOID BUYING AND SELLING HERE!!! Another update: I’ve never hated a place more. Told me they couldn’t buy my clothes because they were worn and peeling but I saw multiple items in the same condition on their racks. Poor service and a poor experience! Hope this place closes down forever or at least gets more knowledgeable employees!
Terrible customer service! Rude, unqualified and entitled employees. I know and understand how the process works. I was told my wait will be about an hour maybe a little longer. Fine , I expected it. My wife had time to look around. An hour and a half later when I asked for an update , I was told about 45 more minutes. No apology for the delay, no apology for the wrong time frame given. Bad attitude given. Lazy, young untrained, careless, privileged.
If you are a Teenager or College Student, DO NOT apply here! They do not train their employees fully. If they promote you, they will not give you the complete training. They will immediately write you up And demote you for any little infraction. Even if it’s over something you were never trained on. That includes taking away your raise and your responsibilities. Instead, they should be figuring out their weaknesses and working on them over a few more shifts to make sure they fully understand and are totally trained. This shows Growth in both the employees and the company. They have such a high turn over rate it’s ridiculous! They even offer their employees the opportunity to Quit! Who does that?!? I’ve never been so appalled at the way they treat these young adults who are learning the working world. OH! And don’t forget, these kids are lucky to get a 15 min break for any shift they work between a 4-9 hour day. They even work these kids from open till close on the weekends. Also to mention they do not have competitive pay! And they do not accommodate schedules. If your kids go to church on Sundays, they will not be able to. On top of that the management will act like your friend and turn around and stab you in the back. It’s just like high school in this place, very immature. They do not give you Any good construction criticism, only bad. So please rethink about applying here. As a reply to the owner response- Yes you formally had an employee there at the HP location. I’m sure Haley would know because the store went downhill after Amber left. Unfortunately Haley doesn’t have the right qualifications to be an assistant manager.
If I could give them a zero I would. First off, no one even said “hi how can I help you,” I just received a look and then saw 2 girls standing there at the computers. One said to another “are you gonna take them,” and the other responded “I can,” with attitude. Like okay?? No one wants our business? That’s cool. The girl says “I’ll take you over here, do you have an ID?” She says while not even looking at my dad and I, while typing. To which I respond “yes.” She then continues typing. And I slide my ID over to her, she takes it, types in my name/info, then tosses it across the counter…talk about unprofessional and zero respect. She also didn’t give me receipt, just my change/amount due for the 4 items they accepted. I thought it would be in the box they gave back but nope, no receipt at all. I’ve worked in customer service for years and can’t believe this type of attitude is what management accepts these days smh. Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, I just got back home and went through the box of clothes they didn’t take, and everything is exactly in the same spot, meaning it hasn’t been touched at all. They didn’t even go through all 72 items I gave them. They literally touched 1/4 of the box. No wonder they only accepted 4 items. THEY DIDN'T EVEN LOOK. I will be counting my items to see if they truly did take 4 items from my box, as I did my own inventory at home before handing it over. She didn’t even show me the items they took. She just said “so here’s your change, sign here, have a good one”. This is the second time I’ve been to this location and will most definitely be my last. Plato’s Closet, DO BETTER. Stop hiring just anyone. Also you guys resell for higher prices anyways. I’d rather donate to Goodwill knowing someone in need actually got some decent clothing for a great price!!
This place is an absolute joke. Waited several hours and never got a text that my order was ready. They didn't buy a single article of clothing I had plus-size Boohoo, Forever 21, and H&M with the tags still on them because they said it was all "out of style". But yet they had a tacky Top Ramen shirt and Shein sitting on the rack....this place needs to stop staffing clueless teenagers and update their buying policies.
If your thinking about selling clothing here do not! Try uptown, or style encore first!!! I think one star accurately sums up my experience here. I came in with many nice pieces and some lower brand ones. I totally understand not wanting to take the lower brand ones but some of the pieces that I brought in were worth good money. The three pieces that I did end up selling there were a pair of shoes that were retail about $60, an alter’d state dress that was about $60, and I didn’t even see the third piece. They gave me $11 and 52 cents for these three pieces and they were some of the most expensive pieces I was trying to sell. I feel ripped off because at another thrift store I could get $20 for just the shoes and the dress. Furthermore, when I first told them I was going to sell clothing they didn’t explain the process to me. They just made me sign some things and check in on my phone. They didn’t explain the pricing to me of what I was going to get back for different items. And they didn’t give me a receipt of sale. However they do have cheep pricing for the clothing they sell and it’s good if your on a tight budget.
I already read some reviews that said they were racist and I can confirm it, When we walked into the store they had a biracial girl follow us around to make it seem as if it's less racist. there was other people in the store, a white dad and his daughter, they weren't followed around it was just me, my mom, and my aunt who were continuously followed for no reason they asked us if we needed help and we said no but they still kept following us. one girl was following us directly and the other girl was looking over at us from the counter. It was just a very weird and dehumanizing experience, If you need to keep an eye on people that bad then please buy some cameras like every other business, but continuously stalking People based on their skin color is not it!!!
