The Plaza tradition has been one of providing students with a quality education that will lead to opportunities for both personal growth and career advancement.
1916: Plaza Business School was founded in Long Island City by Charles E. Callahan and his wife, Anna S. Callahan, to primarily serve women who needed a career path through education while their husbands and fathers served in World War I
1932: Plaza graduated its 1000th student
1954: Lieutenant Charles E. Callahan, Jr. returned from serving in the Korean War to take over as President with his wife, Elizabeth Callahan, as his Vice President
1966: Plaza celebrated its 50th Anniversary
1970: Expanded and moved to the Bruson Building in Jackson Heights, Queens
1975: First two-year programs developed
1977: First Board of Trustees appointed
1982: Authorized by the Board of Regents of the State of New York to confer the school’s first Associate Degree, transforming Plaza Business School into Plaza Business Institute
1985: Offered the first degree in Accounting
1991: Plaza Business Institute received initial accreditation as a college and became Plaza College
2002: Accreditation granted by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
2004: Medical Assisting, one of Plaza’s most popular and successful programs, was developed
2006: First Bachelor Degree of Business Administration (BBA) offered
2008: Medical Assisting program granted prestigious accreditation from CAAHEP
2009: Authorization to confer the Associate Degree in Health Information Technology and the Bachelor Degree in Patient Information Management received
2014: Plaza College moved to a completely customized and state-of-the-art new campus in Forest Hills Tower in Forest Hills, Queens
2016: Plaza College will celebrate its 100th Anniversary
