Step back in time in Northeastern Pennsylvania's only museum dedicated to
showing the history of the Delaware Indian. the museum with both inform
and perhaps shock you.
It will show the North American history of humans in Northeastern Pennsylvania
from 10,500 BC to the contact period with European explorers and settlers prior
to the American Revolution.
You will see the Delaware indian's peaceful coexistance with other Indians.
And...the shocking and short 100 years it took the white man to virtually eliminate
almost all traces of the Indian's existance.
About the Location
te museum is hosed in an 1840 Mansion built by Mr. John Van Campen Coolbaugh.
It is one of the olest frame structures in the Poconos. The building has served
many purposes over the years, including a boarding house, a stage coach shop,
a safe house for the Underground Railroad, a Speakeasy during Prohibition, and
a dormitory for Camp Sunny Brook.
in 1976, with the property being in great disrepair, was puchased as the site of the
Pocono Indian Museum. Through the dedication and hard work of the Law Family,
the building was brought back to its original splendor.
