Samuel P. Schlewitz
I was born in Altoona, WI. After I graduated from Altoona High School, I moved with my family to TN and attended East Tennessee State University and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in teaching. I attended law school at the University of Memphis and went to work in Chattanooga, TN, for the law firm of Dale Buchanan & Associates primarily practicing in Social Security Disability. Mr. Buchanan was a former staff attorney for the Social Security Administration so I learned Social Security Law from the inside. I also learned that the practice of law is all about the client. I returned to my hometown in April of 2008 and joined Poquette Law, LLC.
My parents met at Altoona High School. My mother, Annette K. Schlewitz, a former gymnast, attended UW Eau Claire and was recently inducted into the University of Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame. She was a coach, school board member and teacher in the community for over 20 years. My father, Alan "Corky" Schlewitz, was an All-State high school athlete and has been in sales for over 30 years in the Northwest region of Wisconsin. My grandfather, Paul Schlewitz, went to work for Presto when he returned to Altoona after World War II. Grandpa never missed a Brewer game broadcast, usually sitting in the garage with his a.m. radio. I loved listening to him talk about watching Hank Aaron when he played for the Eau Claire Bears, "he was the best hitter I've ever seen". My grandmother, Ethel Schlewitz, worked for a local paper company and volunteered at Altoona High School. She was the biggest Packer fan I've ever met. My mother's father, John Lostetter, had a farm in Elk Mound and her mother, Arletta Walker, lives with her husband Bob in Seymour on the Eau Claire River. One of my favorite things about living in the area is that it is full of family members and life-long family friends.
While I attended Altoona High School, I was All-Conference in golf and basketball. I also played football until the doctor pulled my physical due to medical reasons. I then ran cross country and became team captain. While in college and law school I was a member of numerous extra-curricular organizations and played nearly every intramural sport offered. To help pay for my schooling, I worked as a waiter and bartender, but always had time to do lots of hunting and fishing!
I currently handle cases in multiple areas of law including Workman's Compensation, Personal Injury, Family Law, Landlord and Tenant Law, Bankruptcy, Wills, Civil Litigation and I even do some Criminal Law. However, because of my extensive experience of doing well over 1,000 Social Security Disability hearings, it remains my largest area of practice.
The Eau Claire area has always been home to me and always will be. I truly love serving the local community and genuinely care about people which allows me to build strong relationships with all of my clients. I have become friends with many of my clients and look forward to continuing to build relationships.
