Port Jervis (Metro-North station)

Description

The Port Jervis Metro-North station serves the residents of Port Jervis, New York and surrounding communities. It is the western terminus of the Port Jervis Line, with trains taking New York City-bound passengers there via Hoboken and Secaucus Junction. It is the most remote station on the network from the center of New York City, with travel time to Grand Central Terminal being approximately 2.5 hours.Located slightly off US 6 and 209 in downtown Port Jervis, it is the westernmost station in the Metro-North system. It is, in fact, within two blocks' walk of the bridge over the Delaware River to Matamoras, Pennsylvania, a state which produces some regular commuters. The northwestern tip of New Jersey, also not far away, draws riders as well. Rail distance to Hoboken via NJ Transit's Main Line is 95 miles (153 km), the longest distance from one terminal to another on the Metro-North system. The station sees several commuter trains a day, operated by New Jersey Transit. Until 1999, Conrail had a handful of trains traversing over the Southern Tier Line, which is now owned by Norfolk Southern. Today, the New York Susquehanna & Western operates six trains a week past the station, usually passing by during the night hours.

Lovely 'Old School' Town, just a pleasure to walk-a-bout ... St. Mary Church is also quite in character and an easy walk from the train ...
Small MTA train station with medium-sized parking lot with metered parking options. There is a pay station for parking and ticket center used for shelter while waiting for train after purchasing ticket. There is a small platform and is well-surveilled by NY State Troopers.
Port Jervis Metro North train station is a quieter station. This station is on the Port Jervis line, also known as the Southern Tier Norfolk Southern line. This is a brand new station recently completed. Unlike the other stations on this line, Port Jervis is a higher station for direct access boarding trains. No steps to board the train. As such it is also totally handicap accessable. It is quite a nice, but smaller station. This station is close to many things in Port Jervis, just a short walk away. Shopping and restaurants, as well as motor vehicles and other services are within close proximity. There is even a new Rail museum adjacent to the station near the old Erie Railroad turn table. The trains are operated by NJ Transit. So these commuter trains run from Port Jervis, into New Jersey. NYC can be accessed by transferring at either the Secaucus Junction Station or Hoboken Terminal. But it is not a one seat ride like the Metro North trains on the east side of the Hudson River. Parking is reasonable, although I do not understand why they charge for parking. The parking lot is not very large, but seems to fill the needs of this station. There are no restrooms at this station that I am aware of. Although, certain businesses like Burger King is adjacent to the station. So if you are in a situation, consider visiting them for a meal or such. There will be no taxi's waiting or public transportation of any kind that I know of at the station.. Although you can call a taxi. So plan ahead and maybe call first to make sure the taxi's are running when you need them. Just other things to think about. So although there are a few possible set backs depending on your particular situation. You normally do not have to park far from the platform, or have lines to leave on arriving trains.Plus in my experience the train ride is much better on the port Jervis line than the other Metro North lines. It also has some great views, like Crossing the Moodna Viaduct just east of Campbell hall station. You also get to travel through the Otisville tunnel which is over a mile long. So hopefully this helps answer some questions that you might have. Enjoy the ride.
Quiet village along the Delaware River. The NJ Transit train station in right next to the beautiful Front Street with beautiful restaurants, a brewery and quaint shops. You can rent a kayak or raft along the river. Only 2 hours, 20 min from Manhattan by train you have to change at Secaucus station, but normally only 8-11min wait. Driving takes about 90-100 mins without traffic.
The person in charge saw me going to the rails, and waited a lot you tell me that there are no trains working so the bus i was supposed to take instead of the train had left 3 to 4 minutes before it approached, i had to wait almos t 2 hour and when. The bus came the driver told me he is no supposed to let me in for another 15 minutes eve tough he saw me with a cat it is raining today i had to shelter under a big tree that didn't do muchjn
I had 3.24 pm train for Saturday and there is neither train nor information
Port Jervis, New York, also known as the River City and the Gateway to the Upper Delaware River is a small city located at the junction of three states, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It has served as a transportation center for hundreds of years, first as a stop on the Old Mine Road, the first 100-mile road in America, then as a port on the Delaware and Hudson Canal and finally as a division center for New York and Lake Erie Railroad. It still serves as a regional center as the area’s major roadways pass through or near it. In many ways we are still a traditional small town that you may have grown up in in the 1950s or 1960s. We still celebrate Arbor Day, Flag Day and read the Declaration of Independence on July 4th. We remember our veterans on Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day and have a wonderful Fireman’s parade in early July each year. We also have a Halloween parade, a Christmas parade and a Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Port Jervis is a historic town, but also looks to the future. We hope you will visit us or locate your business here or perhaps even move here. Whatever your goal we hope you enjoy your time in Port Jervis. If you like my information then like and rate my work.
Small Town, friendly people, moved here seven years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. Definitely no regrets
Convenient location, but much Station facilities are out of service during reconstruction program.
A train station that's under major construction to make it better will see how this turns out at the end of the year when it is expected to be complete.
