"Porters Building Centers began as Kearney Lumber company on June 7th of 1952. The company started in what was an abandoned mule barn in Kearney, Missouri by Mack and Mary Helen Porter. Mack cashed in the revenue generated from two years of teaching math, science and coaching. Mary Helen sold her new car. The company has grown to four locations We have one contractor and distribution yard in Elwood, KS with a rail spur and four traditional lumberyard-home centers in Kearney headquarters Cameron, Laurie in Missouri & Elwood in Kansas. Porters stock many fine products other than those that you find in a typical Ace Hardware store. We feature the Valspar, Clark+Kensington and Ace Royal paint lines, in addition to Cabot & TWP."

As a mom of three, I always dread trips to the hardware store because it’s so boring for the kids. Well, not at Porters!! Always great customer service, and the free popcorn is such a nice touch for the kids! Great business to have in our small town!
I rented a tiller from these folks yesterday which was a super easy process . Plan was to have it for 2 days, finished up a bit early and was going to take it back. The vehicle I was using to transport it decided to break a belt in Liberty and had to be towed. That’s a problem. Called them and apprised them of the situation and they responded that they had a guy making a delivery and he could stop by and grab it. He showed up 30 minutes later. Above and beyond, we’ll played Porter’s!!
Outstanding customer service with an online order and delivery. New Mower
I was in Ace hardware/porters lumber yesterday because they had a sale on compact saws that are 20 V. I had my ace rewards cards with me that would allow me a discount on the 6 1/2 inch Dewalt circular Saw run by 20 V battery, I was told that my ace rewards were not valid for something that was on sale but yet when I was at the counter and I paid for my items I was charged full price. I return to the store today. To tell them that I thought that this item was on sale and I was told no it’s not, but yet yesterday I tried to use my rewards cards and told I couldn’t because it was on sale but yet it’s not on sale and I still wasn’t allowed to use my reward cards. Now I don’t mind paying full price, which I did, but I do mind being given the runaround and being lied to. This was like a catch 22 situation you can but you can’t. Porters don’t send me any more ace rewards cards. I will not do business with a company that is like that and is dishonest. I received a response about my review that asked me to contact someone else and make an appointment to come in to discuss the issue. Really? I was already there two days in a row and I did try to settle what happened with no success. Does that mean I need to keep on coming in to be embarrassed and come out with the same response from Porters? No thank you, I’ve been embarrassed enough already and I plan on explaining what happened to me on other social media when available. I do not plan on wasting my time or money with this kind of customer service, I can experience that at the local box stores. I just had a friend explain bait and switch, I don’t have that much experience with that but it seems like that’s what happened.

I always enjoy trips to Porters! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Their Hallmark section has adorable home decorations and I also love the Simply Southern clothing and accessories. They are family owned and operated - Kent, Alex and Mack are great!!
I have had Porter’s work on 2 vehicles: one with hail damage and the other from an accident. Aaron Porter has been fantastic. He handled the insurance portion, which kept my involvement minimal. Vehicles we ready as promised and looks amazing. Definitely will recommend! Stellar service!
I frequent Porters for spray paint and they always have a great selection and everyone is really helpful! I love supporting local stores instead of making the trip into Liberty.
The employees were very helpful! They didnt have what we needed in stock, but one man offered to check the other stores he was visiting that day for the item! It was so kind, they took our number and let us know they would call when they got it in, or found it!
We are always greeted at the door with a hello when we come in and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The Porter families are true American entrepreneur's that not only run a first class operation they are genuinely concerned about there community.
