We ended up coming to the campground with our friends for Fourth of July weekend. We are a pretty rowdy group and were nervous from previous reviews. However, our experience was absolutely awesome! In fact we are already planning a trip for next year! Our kids had plenty of fun in the river and even looking at the ducks and geese! Luckily our campsite had bushes in back of it so we didn’t have to worry to much about the little ones with the River! The camp hosts were super friendly and the bathrooms were more than clean. There is a giant field in the middle of the campground we’re all the kids gathered and played ball every night. It was fun to see a bunch of random kids get together. Just an all around great experience! Love Portneuf!
Nice well kept area along the Portneuf River. Large lots. The even larger corner lots are the favorites. Kayaks, E-bikes and motor sport vehicles for rent, along with ice, wood and other sundries available. Pull through, back in, tent, group and electric available. No water or sewer hookups at the lots I could see. Bathrooms were well maintained pit toilets.
Grateful to find this clean campground along a river, with friendly camp hosts. Here 24 hrs for cold river swims & dips, while on ‍‍ girlfriend road trip. This was our last stop near Lava Hot Springs for sunset & sunrise hot soaks. Though campground is near tracks, it is quieter than most campgrounds, closest to Lava Hot Springs. Will return to this !
If you’re in the right spot you’re not as close to the trains. They do travel all day and night but there are campgrounds that are closer to the highway and the tracks. I had a delightful time here. The river is a great place to tube. Slow with just a few fun drops. Not as swift and crazy as in town. In fact, we only tubed the river here. The sites have Electrical hookups but no water or sewer. There are water hydrants scattered around that you can fill up with. Closest RV Dumps are at the KOA or the Flying J in McCammon both charge $10. There are fairly mature trees and all the spots are grassy with a table and a fire pit.
We had a great time at the campground! The staff was super nice and very accommodating. The campground is well-maintained and all camp spots have nice green grass at each of them. Camp spots come with a fire pit and picnic table which was super nice to have. We had great sunsets here too.
Hosts were great Sept. 20w2 clean facilities and the grassy spots were comfortable tent camping. The river runs right through camp. Price rates are less during the week. Close to town and on a great road recommended for further exploration.
My family & I absolutely loved this campsite! We stayed here last weekend & had such an amazing time. We were a group of 10, grabbed 2 sites right next to each other, had 2 tents set up on both but mainly hung out on one site & there were no issues. We did this at the KOA & they lost it, saying "too many people on one site." So I was a little worried but the staff didn't bother us not once. They were so friendly & provided extra rafts to float down the river for extra $$ of course, but cheap. There was an exit right next to our campsite & was super convenient, shallow enough for the kids to play. Bathrooms were clean clean! Yes, they are just a hole in the ground but they were constantly being cleaned & no smell. No power pole but it's okay, we didn't need it. Lots of shade. & you get such a great view at night with the stars, it was beautiful. Train rolls by but I feel like that's part of the experience at Lava Hot Springs. We were up past quiet time & no one kept coming around to tell us to be quiet. We were aware of how loud we were being & kept it quiet. After having such a horrible experience at the KOA, we wanted to try something new & decided on this campsite. We were a little worried due to the reviews but gave it a try & loved our experience. We are already planning on coming back next year! Thank you for treating us well, keep up the good work!
Have come twice in the last month and loved the site. On our first visit there were trains throughout the day, but not through the night. This past visit it felt like there was a train every few hours - even through the night. This made tent sleeping less comfortable. However, the staff is friendly and accommodating which makes the stay well worth it! There is a river to float on or just swim around in to help cool you down. And they are about 5 minutes from downtown! Great camping here!
Very awesome place to camp. Very clean!!! The host was very kind and respectful. I called to see if I could change our camping spot and she changed it right away. Checking in was very easy. Just so you know, trains do come by. My kids loved it. They loved seeing the trains go by. For sure this will be our camping spot when we come back up to Lava.
We love this place!!! The campground is gorgeous and green with spots all along the river. The hosts showed us the teepee and tents for rent and they were so cute! We rented tubes and kayaks and spent the afternoon floating the river. The campground is minutes away from the town of Lava so it's easy to drive in to town.
