Great swim facility. I was a timer for the special Olympics.
"Open Swim at the Selby Aquatics Center. Open to adults [18+] $7 drop-in --$70 monthly. Mondays-Sundays 11:00a-1:00pm" Great pool! But not much time anymore available for open lap swimming. More a tourist mecca for college swim teams in Winter; and nearly pure training facility for Sarasota Sharks other 3 seasons. Locals be da-ned. Best other option in Sarasota County now? Arlington Park. Even Shark team members swim there as well as former olympians.
Nice facility. Clean. Plenty of shade. Hosted the Florida Special Olympics regional swim meet. Everyone had a fantastic time. Plenty of parking.
Selby Aquatic Center has a great pool and nice family water park. In the Summer, the pool was chilled nicely. Fantastic for lap swimmers. However, it is no longer managed by the adjacent YMCA. Instead, the Sarasota Sharks swim team has taken over management. Now, it’s closed more than open. Even Sharks swim team members swim elsewhere to get all their workouts in. Not open to public on weekends. Lifeguard availability and number required seem to be a problem. Future availability to lap swimmers may be limited to USMS members The dive boards, platforms and jacuzzi have been removed for insurance reasons. The water park is ONLY open on weekends during the summer. What a cryin’ shame of mismanagement.
What a great facility. Limited seating for events but a very nice pool.
This was an amazing pool to swim at during my vacation in Sarasota. The lifeguards were very nice and I just had to pay a daily fee to get in and sign some paperwork the first time. The pool space was very nice and I actually made some friends with people I met at the pool. I could tell that the coach of the swim team loves his job and runs the pool well.
Guest and spectators will have no sun cover. They could have structured the swim event better to accommodate guest. Comment to response posted 1-27-2022 from a visit 18 month ago. Day Late Dollar Short 501c3 directors! Outdoor activity; time to move on with life! Will not return to facility or events after being to other outdoor and indoor swim events with normal and reasonable seating for guest of swimmers.
Do not plan on going here with children. The place is only open for activities in the large pool. Little ones have to take a swimming test before they are allowed in. All the fun things for kids in the colorful play area are closed yet they continue to show them in the pictures.
love this aquatic center! phenomenal! Great coaching with coaches Rick Walker, Andy... Et al... Cool water, which is wonderful while working out hard!
My son is in the younger group for swim and he loves it so much. As a program, they are beyond amazing. They let every kid work at their own pace, while pushing them to be amazing. And it works! My son has never felt so happy with one of his hobbies. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the pricing. When they separated from the YMCA and raised their prices for the water park, it made it harder to bring my son for casual activities with friends.
