Kindness comes in many forms and gestures. I was having a really bad day missing home and missing various people. I went to Poverello and saw this beautiful merman painting and it immediately brought a smile to my face. I met a man in the shop who had to be feeling the same way that day.. I told him to take the piece as it brought him great joy. I was feeling very happy I had done somewhat a good deed. Low and behold he took the piece and rolled it up and gave it to me to take home. Kindness made a full circle that day. He may not know but he made my day turn around. The small gesture turned into such a huge mark of kindness on me. I framed the piece and even with the small tear, it makes me feel happy inside. Visit Poverello to check them out, who knows it could turn your day around too... Thank you Kind Stranger for the gesture. It has been imprinted onto my heart
I just wanted to give praise to a Poverellos' thrift Store employee. I was greeted by this very respectful African American gentleman named William. He was telling me about what all the donations mean to the thrift store. He was very respectful and Thanked me for my donation. But, unfortunately I had to move on because of the line forming behind me.
After visiting several local thrift stores I googled to find more obscure ones, decided to visit this one on a whim and boy am I glad I did! This is one of the most well organized thrift stores I've ever been too and yet it still allows for the thrill of the hunt! I was bending down, scouring the bottom shelves and never came across anything that made me question “why would they put this on the shelf” like I’ve experienced in other thrift stores. Better yet? Proceeds go back into the community by helping feed those in need. David, who was working the register, is a rare gem in Ft. Lauderdale. He was so engaging, pleasant AND you can tell he really cares about the business and the reinvestment back into the community. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS THRIFT STORE!
The guy at the front desk named Berto is what this facility has been missing. Not only his work ethic is impeccable but very informative. He's also extremely gorgeous and cute with a great heart and such a great sense of humor that makes anyone feel welcome. Love his dimples too. The whole team is great but Berto would make your day. Sorry if I pronounced his name wrong
So as a homeless person I was able to eat once a day getting an emergency bag of food consisting of a can of ravioli some bread some crackers and a bottle of water now they want me to stand in line on the left side were I have been 3 times to try to get in their program 1st time I brought a letter from my doctor letting them know I have stage three cancer 6months to live when the person took my application they said ohh your in a sober living home you need also a letter from your house manager I brought that then he added ohh you have a case manager you need to bring a letter from them so it’s been 3 months and I still am not in they are hoping I die so the people who work their can bring home more food, because I see them every day loading up their cars with the best and freshest food this place should be investigated and their 501-C3 should be denied they will get their judgment in the end by their creator……. I hope they enjoy their last days on earth Gluttony is one of the 7 deadly sins!!!!!!!!
Today was the first time we visited this store. We got there 15 minutes before closing, so we only had a few minutes to look around. As soon as we walked through the door David greeted us with a warm welcome and a big smile. Right away I saw what we were looking for, an old school record player with radio and CD player for only $30 practically brand new. We were so happy for this deal because the same player, you'll find on Amazon for $132 the cheapest. When we got home and turn it on we noticed the speakers on it is really powerful. So just shopping for less than 15 minutes I would say it was very successful.
They definitely research the brands they sell. They up-charge name brand clothing regardless of the condition. Not a place for bargains. More like discounted retail.
The food bank never picks up the calls. Staff is rude. The deliveries that I have requested never get delivered on time or don't arrive at all. This place is not worth your time because no one is helping. I live far and and to drive over there is a hassel for me. This is why I requested delivery. Thanks for making my day worse poverello.
This is one of my favorite thrift store locations in South Florida. You can find some great items here. It's a wonderful local treasure. The staff are great and always friendly. The prices are usually reasonable and the money goes to a great cause! Give this place a shot and then head over to the Goodwill and Out of the closet down the street from here.
Horribly disappointed was told I had to send pictures of everything to the manager to drop it off. Instead brand new clothes. Electronics. Walkers. ALL GOING IN THE TRASH. I don't have time for that. NEVER USING OR RECOMMENDING AGAIN.
