"Spare the time to Change your mind"
What is Spare Change ?
Spare Change is a program of Planned Parenthood Northern California, where teens teach their peers about the realities and responsibilities that come with their developing sexuality. Trained peer educators offer one-on-one support and also teach in the schools. There are two components: Spare Change classroom presenters, and Spare Change Theatre Troupe.
The Project’s Philosophy:
We believe that everyone has the right to be educated about healthy sexuality and relationships. We believe everyone has the right to make choices based on facts not fears: empowering youth through truth.
Educator’s Mission Statement:
As members of Spare Change, friends to our peers and citizens of our community, we will spread knowledge regarding respect, healthy sexuality and decision making to everyone who seeks it. At the same time we will offer support and a chance to be heard. By providing peers with skills and knowledge we are raising awareness of diversity to help others find compassion and empathy. Through our work, we will learn how to love ourselves and respect others.
Spare Change Theater Mission Statement:
Through the medium of theatre, we are dedicated to raising people’s awareness of the issues relating to sexuality. We will give accurate information in order to educate about healthy choices and safety for all.
