Prospect High School

Description

Prospect High School, or Prospect, is a public four-year high school located in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is part of Township High School District 214, which also includes Buffalo Grove High School, Elk Grove High School, John Hersey High School, Rolling Meadows High School, and Wheeling High School. It serves central Mount Prospect and a large portion of east Arlington Heights close to the Mt. Prospect village limits. Its feeder schools are Holmes Junior High School, Lincoln Middle School, South Middle School and Friendship Junior High School.HistoryProspect was opened in 1957 as a freshman campus for the now-defunct Arlington High School. By the next school year, the district had grown enough that Prospect was turned into a full four-year school. In August 1995, on only the second day of the new school year, the school's field house suffered a fire. The cause of the fire was nothing short of a freak accident. Thick mats used by the track team (mostly the mats for high jump) had been out in the blistering sun on the previous day. The mats, with the heat of the sun still within them, were placed above a loft in the field house. One of the mats rested against a frayed electrical cord. The heat of the mat combined with the frayed wiring started the fire. The scoreboard and school record plaques were melted in the fire, though the most damage came from the water damage from the fire hoses. The field house was closed off for most of the 1995-1996 school year. The field house re-opened with a much-needed lighting improvement, better basketball floor and new paint.

After being a student here for 4 years, I believe I have the credentials to give this place a well thought out review. First of all, most students here mainly believe they are in fact God's gift. They feel extremely entitled if they say everything each teacher wants to hear and get an above average grade in the class. On top of that, majority of the students are stressed out about getting into college and take life way too seriously. The general culture is formed around conformity and not individual expression, which is quite evident. In terms of education quality, most classes are based on how well you can memorize information. Most teachers will make classes harder than it needs to be and if your work doesnt match or correlate to the specific rubric they have developed in their mind, it is wrong. Why did I get C's in English in high school, but straight A's once I got to college? My work did not change I can tell you that much. If an incident occurs in a classroom, whether it be behavioral or something as simple as a spill, some teachers will not ask you what happened but will just say it is your fault and will embarrass you in front of the room. I've been yelled at by several tutors just for asking a simple question. I've been yelled at for using facilities as an adult after I have raised over $5,000 for the athletic programs. Extremely unprofessional. In terms of the positive, the only thing I can think of is the campus itself. It is very well maintained and very pleasing to be around and look at. That is all I have to say.
My daughter had a very difficult time while she attended school here. Teachers were not helpful and lacked communication skills. Our family moved to an area where she was able to receive the individualized education that she needed to be successful in school.
I went to this school for two years and now being out of high school, I can now write a proper review about it. I was very excited freshman year to finally go to the school my sister went to and enjoyed so much. However, the teachers are not helpful, and even look away from those picking on other students. I have had teachers tell me to drop out, and others refuse to help in the way I told them I needed it. I can not sit down and study like most students, it needs to be hands on, and they didn't even try to help me if I asked, whether it be after school or in class. It is very true, that if you are a popular student that you get special attention as well. I sat through the abuse at this school for two years before finally transferring to a school that could do me some good. I will however add that my sophomore science teacher, Deborah Conners, DID in fact try to help me, and DID give me the time of day, unlike the other teachers and I thank her for that.
Wow..... this high school was different I loved the teachers but the lunch was not good. They did not let me go to Panda Express and the hotdogs were soggy. The principle also took away my phone and my fidget cube. The pizza is also very very hard.
Kinda weird reviewing a high school, but here goes: people do move into the District for their kids to come here. PHS does get high standardized scores. They do have a new swimming pool, excellent music department. Take a tour.
Excellent school. It is a beautiful, clean facility with caring, intelligent staff. Best of all, they have a full-time therapy dog!!
Great school, most teachers are AMAZING. There are very few teachers that did not help me in some way or another.
Incredibly amazing staff. Everyone is so nice in every way. Very helpful too.
Terribly high tuition fees! Not quite altogether when it comes to communication!
