Description

Providence High School was founded in 1955 by the Sisters of Providence. We are a private, co-educational, independent, college preparatory Catholic high school. We are accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a member of the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), and we are a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon High School. PHS initially started as an all-girls school, but in 1974 the campus became co-educational.

Today our 400+ students enjoy a full college prep curriculum as well as access to three Focus Programs; Medical, Cinema Arts, and Technology. We also offer award winning performing arts, rewarding Christian Service and Campus Ministry opportunities, competitive athletics and numerous clubs and activities.

When we say YOU BELONG HERE, we truly mean it.

Mission

Guided by our Catholic tradition, we develop each student's academic potential, moral values, love of learning, and commitment to faith and service.

While I had my heart set on a closer school for purposes of avoiding a freeway commute to school my son had his heart set on Providence from the moment he attended a Shadow Day. The arts program has blossomed in the last few years and he entered the freshman class this year on time for the new Science Center to be up and operational. But those weren't even the big selling points - my son chose the school for two major reasons. 1. the friendly character of the student body they all take their motto "You Belong Here" seriously and 2. the Tech Program which allowed him to take 2D and 3D gaming courses in freshman year and robotics as a sophomore. At most other schools students don't get to take 'electives' until they are juniors but these Programs Tech, Media and Medicine allow freshman to jump right in to an area they would like to explore and begin acquiring specialized skills - a nice bonus to a college application.
My son transferred to Providence for his sophmore year, and is now a junior. It was the best decision our family could have ever made! He's a student athlete, and while we're proud of the position he plays and leadership skills he brings to the varsity basketball team, we're most proud of his academic growth and desire to excel! I remember snooping on his Facebook page a few weeks after he started school, and he posted that he was going to strive for a 4.0, and was excited about it! This is definitely something a parent looks for in a school. The staff and students are incredible, and the energy around the campus is always positive! I would definitely recommend Providence to any parent looking for an inspiring school, with high academic standards.
