I drove 2.5 hours from North of Boston to dispute my camera running a red light ticket from last year. I arrived and checked in and went inside for 8:00am. I was not the driver when the ticket was flagged and I lost my previous jobs as a college professor, interpeter, and seamstress. I started driving with ride share companies and they have a specific background check and they do ask about these issues. I know that the camera does not show on a driving record. The judge quickly dismissed some cases then it was my turn. I politely, professionally, and firmly told him about my concern of the background check. He advised me that basically taking less and letting the court him decide is the best. Then he showed me the video of my car and admitted that he will dismiss it because there was an error on the camera. So I drove so far away to be there for a mistake of a camera. I wrote two letters prior to going to court asking if I can please be seen on Zoom. The people who I spoke to told me it’s Providence and that’s how it is. This is a shame not for me, a single person who has two reliable vehicles it’s a shame that other people who must waste their time to find reliable transportation, baby sitters, and take care of major obligations cannot get the same resources and therefore solutions. I heard the judge say it’s dismissed but once again no not really talk so he can hear himself think. This is n infraction not a criminal proceeding. And the camera was at fault. I still asked to speak and offered to buy and donate a laptop so that Zoom will be available for the future as it can save time. Conversely, it is a shame that a city filled with so many talented and hard working individuals can be so short sighted and unfair. I was in a car accident last year and I almost died. The man who hit me was undocumented and I felt bad and didn’t want him deported. I work so hard and I cna make it but my heart hurts for those who cannot due to stress, depression, disappointment, and other major stressors. I have hope and would like to see that one day Providence considers the feelings of others especially when they are not liable. When you attend court you should have a right to speak for a few minutes and not be shut down and treated like someone who is insignificant. Providence needs profound progress. I am still willing to purchase and donate the technology that is needed to help others in such fickle times.
Very disappointed in how the court handled my overtime parking ticket. Even though I had registered for the overnight parking permit, I still received a ticket rightfully so, since I had changed vehicles and not updated the details in the permit. What I find disappointing is the resolution to this case, even after changing my permit details I was still expected to pay for the ticket. I don't understand the logic here, considering I've already contributed my support for parking in the form of the $200! overnight parking permit.
It seems most of the 5* are from people just watching the show on youtube and TV who like the judge. But most people who actually use the service complain about the rude/unprofessional service. Browsing through the other reviews you can score them: 5* showmanship 1* service It could be nice if judge Caprio divert some of his focus and positive energy to training and reeducating the court staff.
Judge did not ask the details of my case, wrote off tickets worth far more than mine in front of me then laughed when I asked for a reduction in my own. Presumed the people in front of me were students but was rude when I brought up that I was as well. Did not take into account that I had unnecessarily paid three tickets from the set already, nor that I received the tickets in question because I am from out of state and was unaware of a law difference between my home and Rhode Island. A great example of ignorance and self-inflated worth at work in Providence government. For what it's worth, the rest of the employees that day were courteous.
I love owr judge DiCaprio he is Awsome judge hes wise and understanding judge i got a red light citation by via camera shot we whent over the video i said yes im guilty but the judge dismissed my citation home free and i got a parking ticket he dismissed that to a very good judge i wish i can give him 100 stars
One word to describe my experience - criminals. I had a traffic violation 3/6/18. It was a speeding violation captured on camera in a school zone occurred on a Sunday going 10 MPH over. Result was a $95 ticket - option to pay or go to trial. Since I have a clean driving record with no infractions, I decided to go to trial. The date they indicated was 6/14/18 at 8 AM. I rearranged my work schedule to go and wait almost 2 hours. I finally see the judge and in less than a minutes time, he reduces to $75. Never did I have a chance to make my statement. It was reduced for some litigation with the Supreme Court yet they fail miserably to explain and gave you a convoluted reply. I will say that Judge Caprio was extremely kind, pleasant and demonstrated all of the qualities of a professional. I’m told to move along and my options are to pay then or come back to another hearing on 1/17/19 at 5 PM, which brings me to today and writing this review after having just left. I just left the municipal court. I was encountered by 3 individuals, 1 of which was pleasant, professional and kind. He was working the check in area when you first walk in. The other 2 people - rude and arrogant. The young female/teller working the window had zero social skills and demonstrated no professionalism whatsoever. She was brunette, mid 20’s/early 30’s. She was rude before I even got to the window. You could tell she couldn’t wait to punch out for the day and had no desire to be friendly or courteous to others. With no chance to state why I was there, she tapped her fingernails on the counter so as to indicate I just give her my paperwork. She then says no hearings are happening and they’ve been canceled. Pay now or sign here to come back in July. I asked why there wasn’t a notice to myself and others about a cancelation as people rearrange their schedules based on asked to be here. Her response - pay now or sign here. The 3rd and final person I encounter on this visit - the Inspector listed on my document. He was slightly better than the woman I just met but became stern with myself and another patron with a similar issue. I explained my citation and why I chose to come back in June 2018 and then today January 2019. Yet he said with the most rude tone, “I’ve already told you guys five times, you can pay your ticket now or come back in July.” As if we already didn’t understand that, he completely talked down to us and had the most arrogant behavior - like he thought he was better than us and above the law. Classic example of an officer thinking they are above the law. I was torn as to whether to pay and not deal with prolonged aggravation. The older polished woman/patron looked at me and it was clear we both decided to come back 7/11/19 based on principal. When this 3rd hearing approaches, it will now have been over a year since the citation. The citation was 3/2018, hearing 1 was 6/2018, hearing 2 was 1/17/19 and now hearing 3 is 7/2019. It’s clear they have a prolonged extended period of time between each as they want, hope and expect people to just pay. Pure criminals preying on the helpless and poor. I am neither. See you 7/11/19.
The most terrible experience I've ever had with a court system. I wish I could give zero stars. I Called asking basics question about my citation and to check the status of my transfer of liability. The older lady who answered was extremely rude and short with me. I could barely get my answered before she started sounding annoyed and frustrated. This lady had zero patience and basically wanted to get off the call when she picked up. This is just awful, I was peacefully asking question that are important to my case and she just treated me like dirt. I am from out of state as well so this makes it look even worse for them.
I got a ticket saying I did overtime parking! There were no street signs saying I couldn’t park there… as a matter of fact, there were no visible signs on the street at all. Meanwhile none of the other cars on the street had tickets. Very disappointed in the way this city handles this. Hopefully they use my ticket money towards a street sign with clear instructions.
Just love the show Caught In Providence. Great Judge Frank Caprio I ever seen. Kind heart with helped lots of peoples. God bless you Judge
This city and state is an absolute joke. Nothing but corrupt, they will make mistakes on your paperwork that will cost you hundreds of dollars or your licence being taken away. When you try to notify them of their own errors it goes in one ear and out the other. Whoever thinks extortion doesn't exist anymore should move to Providence and see how all these old corrupt guineas and liberal scum operate.
