As a child, I would hang out there every day. My house was just across the street on Stephens ave. Back then it wasn't a park, it was an open field where we walked to the creek. We swam in this water which had a homemade diving board. This was in the summer of 68. The water then was crystal clear. Back then it was more country than a suburb. We chased rabbits, pheasants, and bullfrogs. Free hawks dominated the whole range. I moved out in 81, Miss it so much.
This is where they started up the ferry to Manhattan. We took a walk to see the new ferry stop and it's absolutely beautiful the sights. They have the schedule up for you to see and check which time would fit your schedule. People at the dock to help you on & off the ferry and a machine to purchase your tickets right there. Very convenient. If you want to take your bike it's only a dollar extra.
Grossly neglected park with abundance of litter, but still it's quiet and you can find botanical and ornithological gems.
Adjacent to Soundview ferry sits this amazing scenery // place of relaxation. Here you can view the Whitestone bridge, soundview ferry coming in and out of dock and experience the cultures that exist at the doorsteps of this amazing park!
I mean its somewhere to walk. Not exactly the best area of NYC for nice outdoor spaces so you take what you can get. People leave their trash throughout ALL the time even though there are garbage cans. Not a terrible spot to bird watch; I even saw a rabbit with her babies once.
It's in walking distance it's clean.Public schools near by ,kips bay boys n girls club on the corner.Go get a little work out in.Snd most of all it's free go early. Playground: It's very clean and organized
Love the winding off-road trail in the woods; only one section behind school where tarvia has erupted making for rough spots.
Beautiful place for walking/mediation,and a nice workout.
