Description

The Quannapowitt Yacht Club (QYC) in Wakefield has available membership openings for sailors and those interested in learning. Take exit 39 south off Rt. 128 to Wakefield. We’re located at the end of Linda Road, the flashing light on North Avenue.

We have a modern club house, plenty of space on our rigging docks, a large safe anchorage, club sailboats and dinghies for you to use. Lake Quannapowitt is a great size lake to learn to sail on and a big enough venue for regional regattas. We get a refreshing “sea breeze” many afternoons during the summer. Between races you can enjoy sitting in the cool lake breeze under the oak covered deck with other families and racers who enjoy this hidden gem of Boston area sailing clubs.

Racing

QYC is a racing club with mixed fleet racing on Wednesdays and Sundays and occasional regattas, starting in May and continuing through October. The racing is competitive, but fun with lots of room for beginners to learn and experienced racers to sharpen their skills. Our racing skippers range in age from 15 to 80 plus, and include woman and men.

QYC sanctioned fleets are the Laser, Daysailer, Flying Scot, Cape Cod Mercury, and 420s with a small fleet of mixed types. See fleet listings for more information. Our fleets are relatively inexpensive and usually race “one-design.” QYC also supports local board sailors by sponsoring board races on Thursday evenings during the summer months. Power boats owned by QYC provide a platform for running sailing activities and for “rescue” should you capsize.

The club owns Lasers, Cape Cod Mercurys, Daysailers, 420s, and a Flying Scot for use by qualified members. In addition, Optimist dinghies are available for qualified children sailors.

Mission

The object of this club shall be to encourage and promote the sport of one design yacht racing, and to provide and maintain suitable club anchorage and facilities for the use of its members, and to assist in improving the waters of Lake Quannapowitt.
