Casual atmosphere, plenty of seating indoors with outdoor seating in the warmer months. Extremely fast and friendly service. Very reasonable prices and delicious food!Recommended dishesCheeseburger Special with French Fries
Food quality Service Ambiance Value Menu selection Location/Accessibility Overall experience After a long and tiring hiking trip, I found myself craving a classic American hamburger. As luck would have it, I was in the vicinity of the popular Quatman Café, a restaurant that has garnered a reputation for its family-friendly, small-town vibe. Eager to satisfy my hunger, I decided to give it a try. Upon arriving, I noticed that the parking lot was small and shared by two other businesses. Nevertheless, I managed to find a vacant spot and made my way inside. As soon as I stepped through the doors, I was enveloped by the delicious aroma of cooking food, which only served to intensify my appetite. The décor was dominated by the patriotic color of red, which created a warm and inviting atmosphere. While the lighting was a bit dim due to the lack of natural and artificial sources, the space was cozy, with enough tables and booths to accommodate a few dozen patrons at once. The counter and restrooms were located at the back of the restaurant, far from the entrance, and there was a small bar in a separate room that appeared to be closed at the time of my visit. As I surveyed the scene, I couldn't help but notice that all the customers were white and dining in groups. Though I initially felt a bit intimidated, given the stories I had heard, I quickly dismissed the thought and made my way towards the counter. However, I was stopped by a male staff member, seemingly the chef, and asked if I was a customer. After confirming my status, he instructed me to take a seat and wait for the waitress to take my order. I complied and chose a booth near the entrance. The waitress was prompt in taking my order, and I requested a half-pound burger with tomato, onion, and pickles, minus the cheese. I also ordered a side of shoestring fries and a can of diet coke. Before I could even request the burger sans cheese, the waitress informed me that it was not included in the recipe, which made me chuckle as though she had read my mind. When my order arrived, I found that the burger components were not assembled, and I had to put them together myself. While this might be a hassle for some, I found it rather amusing, much like playing with a Lego set. The condiments, utensils, and napkins were located on the side of the table, which I found a bit unusual. As I took my first bite, I noticed that the buns were not warm and toasted, which could be a minor annoyance for some. Additionally, the patty felt a bit lukewarm and not freshly cooked, as if it had been reheated. The vegetables were cold to the touch, which caused the burger to lose heat rapidly. However, despite these setbacks, the taste was amazing. In fact, it might just be the best hamburger I've ever had. It was as if the burger was meant to be eaten at this very spot, at this precise moment, with these exact people, as if the universe had altered the rules of gastronomy just before I took my first bite. The flavor was mild, which allowed the taste of the patty to shine, even though it was relatively plain. The patty itself did not have a strong beefy flavor, indicating that it might have been made from mixed ground meat. The pickles were homemade and less tangy than the canned version, which I appreciated. They were also crispy and crunchy. The shoestring fries were hot and had a crispy skin yet soft texture, which paired well with the ketchup. The chef was generous in his portion size, which I enjoyed. As for the diet coke, it had a lighter flavor than the regular version, which allowed me to savor the taste of the burger. While the service I received was efficient, I sensed a hint of tension among the staff, likely due to the demands of a busy day and limited personnel. Despite this, my experience was pleasant and above average. Although I wouldn't describe it as a remarkable experience, it was undoubtedly satisfying. This café has left a positive impression on me, and I recommend it to those in search of a satisfying, no-fuss meal.
Food was good and price was a little high for the food. Plenty of fries served. This is a great quick lunch stop. Paper plates and plastic cups keep cost down. Wait staff was very proffessional and friendly. I'd go again for work lunch.Food: 4/5
Would like to see more meatless options. Would like to see fresh brewed teas and would like to see them stop use of plastic cups. Every time you get a refill they bring another plastic cup. Vegetarian options: Only veg option was gardenburger. Not very good, I must admit.
Went there on Friday and had their daily special fish sandwich. Mine was cooked perfectly, my wife's was still cold and translucent in the center. It was not undercooked. it was uncooked. We pointed it out to the server, who looked at it and said it would be a few minutes to cook new fillets. 2 minutes later she came back out with fish that was lukewarm and overcooked to the point that you could not bite into it. I demonstrated to her and she went and got the manager/cook. He could care less, It seemed obvious to me that he took 2 fillets that were pulled aside earlier because they were overcooked and served them to us because we sent back the original sandwich. No apologies, Just said because of the uneven size the fish is hard to cook. He stated the only way he could tell if it was done was to stick his finger in the fish, and no one wanted fish with finger holes in it. I asked him if he ever heard of instant read thermometers and he just walked away. We've been going there about twice a month since we moved here a couple of years ago, but we wont be back. Wish we had taken pictures, but who knew we would be treated so shabbily.
I loved this cafe, I've been. back multiple times. It has a very classic feel, with not much server interaction, which I enjoy. I don't like being bombarded with "how's your meal? would you like to hear our desert options?" they just take your order, bring you it, and you pay yourself at the front. My favorite type of restaurant experience. Food was really good. I've had multiple things there but they all were of great quality and great taste. Lovely place for families and singles! Parking: Lots of spaces, probably won't fill up in a rush.
Food is good if you like basics and who doesn't? Staff is always busy but friendly. Could use something to make place pop. A lot of locals call it a regular stop and prices are kept low and appreciated. Solid place for simple dinner or lunch out.Food: 3/5
First time visit. Ordered the cheeseburger and fries. Great service. Server was always checking on me. Food was hot and served quickly. The burger was huge and had great taste. To drink I had an unsweetened ice tea, but they do offer some alcohol. Definitely going to visit again.Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: YesTakeout: Yes
One of the best burgers that I have found in town. And it's just a nice place to visit.Food: 5/5
Really nice cafe with good food and friendly staff! I've had their cheeseburger special and fish basket and both were great. The fish basket was especially good, the batter around the fish was nice and crunchy with no sogginess. Forget going to the big chain places like Frisches or McDonald's for fried fish. Quatman's is far superior and for a better value.
