I had a great time here this weekend. I hiked both trails just before sundown. The view from lovers leap was spectacular. Both trails suffer a little from some small wash-outs and loose rocks but not too bad. I stayed at the lodge. The staff was very friendly, the room was clean and nice and the veggie pasta from the restaurant was delicious. I will be back to explore the Black Forest Trail and maybe section hike the OT.
This is a great scenic view. If you are into mountainous views I would most definitely recommend this park to you. It has a great trail that is supposedly a medium difficulty. I'm not too sure on the grading scale of trails it seemed fairly easy to myself but I am in pretty decent athletic shape so traversing this type of trail wasn't difficult at all. I would imagine it could be somewhat difficult if you have any type of physical limitation. But it offers RV parking and picnic sights as well as some other facilities that I'm not sure exactly what they were. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in this park as we were from out of town and just wanted to check it out really quick. We did take the lover sleep trail and it was nothing short of breathtaking. I hope everyone has an amazing and blessed day and don't forget to spread awesomeness.
Beautiful! Second highest point in Arkansas with sweeping views all around. A new lodge with nice rooms. Or choose RV or tent camping. A small train car loops 2 miles around the park for sightseeing. Wonderful restaurant on site with a limited bar. Nice big porches for sitting and enjoying the views.
Stayed here on a motorcycle trip . What a gem in the mountains. Room was awesome and restaurant was just as good. My hats off to the Arkansas people who work here for their great service and the friendly waiters and waitresses that we came in contact with. What a beautiful area to have to go to and call it work !
We camped at Queen Wilhelmina State Park over the weekend. The campground and bathhouse are clean and well maintained. The view from the lodge was wonderful although it was cloudy during our stay. The restaurant was great and the little gift shop was just perfect. The staff is very helpful and pleasant. Hiking trails are well marked and maintained. We will definitely visit again.
Great state park. Took our camper and the site was VERY clean. Water and electric hook up, both 30 and 50 amp. Picnic table, grill space and fire ring at the site as well. Bath house was very clean. Having the lodge on the premises is a huge bonus! The restaurant that is at the lodge is awesome. Food was VERY good, and the service was awesome. There is also a train station that you can ride on, which does cost extra and is a separate business than the state park. The lodge also had activities for the weekend. Would definitely recommend this place if you're up for a trek up the mountain and in for a quiet relaxing vacation.
We visited in mid December Room 213 because we had a free weekend. We had not been to this state park, so it was a win win. Unfortunately, the weather was not great. It was incredibly cold no fault of the state park, but it did limit us to what we could do. The staff were nice, helpful. Food at the lodge was good and for the price was good value. If you are looking for high end cuisine, this is not it. But again, it was good and priced accordingly. The room was neat, clean, and spacious. Our "view" was okay - we had a great view of the propane tank and the sewer pump station I am guessing that is what it was. They had a good range of activities for kids and we did a tour of the Wonder House. Again, really cold, so we didnt play outside a ton. Two small issues. First, the entry way by the lodge check-in always smelled of cigarette smoke - the entire time we were there. Second is the chairs and couches in the living room by the fire, etc were just not comfortable. The space looks incredible and the fire is awesome, but the cushions were incredible stiff. I wanted to read by the fire, but did so in limited times. Okay, beyond that, it was a neat experience. The views on the way to the lodge and walking around the lodge were inspiring and the staff were all super nice and helpful.
Very nice and clean mountain top park. Spectacular views. Mid November and park was winterized so no water or dump station. Bathhouse was very well maintained. We stayed in site 6. Fire ring, grill and picnic table were on driver side, opposite the side with awning.
We came to camp in a 26' foot RV. The spots were a little small and close together but this is an older park. It is what it is. That said the employees were all wonderful, answered questions with a smile, everything was clean, the food and service at the Lodge restaurant were great, beautiful views, variety of places to walk, plenty of warm water in the showers, and above all, even though the campground was full it was peaceful and quiet. Restrooms: They were kept very clean. Plenty of warm water. This was my biggest negative. Water turned on by pushing a button which I had trouble finding and it automatically turns off. The timer is too long, wastes water. It needs directions and shorter time. Anyone who needs more water can easily push it a second or even third time if you have directions posted. Dog-friendliness: There is plenty of grass. The dogs that were there while I was including ours barked a little when other dogs approached but all were under control. Picnic area: There are picnic tables at every campsite. But also tables out in the open near visitors parking between the train and the lodge.
This Arkansas State Park is beautiful but set up horribly for campers! It was our first visit and I looked at reviews to pick the spot we got. Site #8 was listed as spacious. It is compared to others there. Many of the sites are on top of each other and many are backwards with the tables and firepits on the reverse side of the rv so you have to walk around the rv to get to your table. Probably a reason why there were only 8 camping there in the 40 sites this weekend. The restaurant at the lodge was EXCELLENT! We had our grandkids and they loved the little train and miniature golf of which both were outrageously priced. 1 adult and 2 kids $23 for golf and 2 adults and 2 kids $30 for a 10 min train ride in my book is horrible! If you are going site #8, 11 and 13 in my book out of the 40 are the only true viable campsites. The rest the state needs to bulldoze and start over.
