On our campuses, diversity means more than skin color. Diversity includes the individual differences (values, personal interest, personality, learning styles and life experiences) and group/social differences (race/ethnicity, social economic class, gender, sexual orientation, country of origin, and ability, as well as political religious, age or other cultural values and affiliations) which are integral to the service of learning. At the same time, we stress the importance of inclusion as the campus engages in discussing diverse ideas in a globalized world.
To better understand the changing world order, at Quinnipiac we believe in working in the intersection of internationalization and multicultural education which provides creative opportunities for faculty, staff, and administrators to help students understand multiculturalism and social justice in a global context; develop intercultural skills; broaden attitudes and experiences for students such as study abroad, global service learning, and courses with a travel component; examine values, attitudes, and responsibilities for local/global citizenship; see how power and privilege are shifting the local/global context; and prepare students to cooperate and compete in a multicultural and global workplace.
