Randall James Clark owns and operates the r j clark studio/gallery in New Carlisle and has worked as a visual artist since 1972. His signature leather sculptures are included in mostly private, but also public collections throughout the United States and in 13 foriegn countries.
In 1994 one of his leather sculptures received the Silver Award at the international Peace and Justice Exhibition, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII, in Jilin Provence, China, where artists from over 50 countries were represented. That same year the Hungarian Academy of Art, in Budapest hosted a six week stay to study contemporary East European art. A BFA from Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) was received in 1995.
In 2013 IUSB presented a certificate of appreciation for 15 years of service, primarily as gallery director, contributing to the design of the previous and current gallery, but also as associate faculty teaching undergraduate: 3-D design, sculpture, business and professional practices, and visual literacy. A few years included teaching K-12 in the New Prairie School System and also a section in the Graduate School of Arts Management at Columbia College Chicago, where an MA in Arts Management was received in 1998. One memorable year included K-12, undergraduate and graduate students.
Over 40 years as an artist and educator by choice, and an entrepreneur by necessity, required many different skills and is reflected in experience and academic diversity. A desire to share the joy of viewing and making art and helping artists grow as creators and professionals explains the broad range of teaching interests. A restless and curious nature could explain the diverse body of work, or oeuvre, containing: bronze, terra cotta, alabaster, gypsum and leather sculpture, Western and Traditional Chinese watercolor, pastel, charcoal, landscapes, figures, abstract and more.
Today most work and teaching is done in the home studio and through guest workshops and lectures. His work is always displayed at the in the r j clark studio/gallery, in occasional exhibits and select galleries.
