About

Rainbow Mountain, LGBT and friends resort in the Pocono Mountains. Hotel, Dance Club, Karaoke Bar, Restaurant, Pool, Lake...

Description

Rainbow Mountain is a gay-owned and operated resort, restaurant and nightclub that has been serving the community since 1981. Nestled high atop a mountainside on 25 private acres, including a 2 acre lake, we boast a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. Welcoming both men and women and open to all lifestyles, we are open year round with our friendly and helpful staff ready to serve you.

Our on-site amenities include an Olympic size swimming pool and sundeck; a year-round, 10-person hot tub with an adjacent, heated changing room, an exercise facility; a sauna, tennis, volleyball, badminton and shuffleboard courts; a hill for snow sledding and tubing, and our pond with paddle boats, fishing, and ice skating.

We are near many warm weather activities such as boating, canoeing, rafting, kayaking, water skiing, golfing and water parks (both outside and indoor). In the winter, there is snow skiing (downhill and cross country), snow boarding, tubing, and snowmobiling. All year long there is great hiking, horseback riding, antiquing, outlet and flea market shopping, and gambling.

If you are expecting an ultra modern resort, you are looking in the wrong place. Our structures were built in the 1900's, 1950's and 1960's. There is a special history and charm that our guest experience while here. One of our guests wrote this review on "Trip Advisor" that captures the true essence of the resort.

"Of all the places in the world I love, one of the best is Rainbow Mountain. For twelve years I have run themed weekends and twice a year I work with the resort and all of the staff. The buildings were built in the 1940’s and codes were different then. The place has a charm of its own but the best part is getting to know the staff and making yourself part of the family, which takes about fifteen minutes on a bad day. When you are a regular at Rainbow it’s like taking a ride to grandma’s for a visit with all the cousins. Rainbow thrives on holidays, especially Halloween, but every Thursday a familiar crew gathers for Karaoke. On Saturday nights everybody dances in the disco. As the weather changes in the mountains it’s simply beautiful to watch the mist roll over the pond located in the center. Not everything at Rainbow is brand new and shiny but the new owners know that and are fixing what needs to be fixed while maintaining the innate charm of the place. Frankly, I will settle for what they have if they promise to keep their smiles, their hugs and family charm. I like old-fashioned warmth and you can find it at Rainbow. Did I mention the big porch? On a pretty day old friends sit there for hours and talk about everything and nothing. Just let Joey know if you need something to drink. Jayson and Rich are always around so there’s no reason to not let your needs be known. Finding flaws with Rainbow is like complaining about the Chelsea, or the Hotel Pennsylvania. You don’t whine, you embrace it and be glad a piece of culture is still here." - M.Davis

You know how the customer is always supposed to be right. Well, not here. Most rooms need major repair/upgrading. Stayed in the cottages. My first room had a broken door. The door frame practically fell on me upon entry. And, it wouldn’t lock. My second room was better. But, had a broken window behind my bed that was boarded up with a wooden slab. Both cottages could’ve been a lot cleaner. You want hot water, forget about it. Some bathrooms had no water, at all. Complaining to the front desk is a gamble. There is a very nasty short blonde woman working at the front desk. She is just rude. Some of the other staff was helpful. But, the new ownership lacks conflict resolution skills. And, will threaten to call police on you, if you are black. 2/10 would not recommend.
First time in this location and the reason why we choose this location because how the website portrayed the rooms and amenities. First and foremost, it’s all a lie. The rooms are in poor condition, the toilet did not flush, I paid for a suite and gave me a different room that is not on the website. It says it has a restaurant and it does not. The female staff were horrible! The two bartender guys were excellent. I will not go to this place ever again. Here are some pictures.
The place is OK, could be run better. Needs better management, pool and faciltity need better upkeep. It used to be a great place in the 90s and 2000s. Now, after Covid19, Camp Out opened just up the street and seems to be giving them a run for their money. IMO. Food & drinks: They do have a set pool lunch menu and a restaurant menu,. However, at the pool, you never know what you will get in your order, what will be missing or what will be available from the kitchen although you are charged for the food up front. I paid cash and bwas short changed. SMH!
I’ve been coming here for my birthday for a few years now… It’s great to hang out by the pool eat dinner at the bistro… The rooms are a little rustic… It’s more like an adult camp, but things are satisfactory and worth the weekend up there for a night or two.Rooms: 4/5
DO NOT STAY HERE YOU WILL REGRET IT. We had no water to bathe, drink, clean ourselves. The front desk is awful and mean. They are racist as hell and go above and beyond to make you feel uncomfortable. THEY CALLED THE POLICE ON GUESTS for no reason. Please do not go here, the manager tried to physically assault someone.Rooms: 1/5
GAYS WE NEED A BETTER STAY Staff at the main desk was so unhelpful and uninformed. They were completely unaware of the early check in process which have done every time we have stayed. Cockroachs were making noise in the heating vents. Bathroom was not clean and the shower curtain was on the floor when I entered. So called manager said he didn’t know how to write English. I was also told no managers are on property. Pool staff walks around “checking” on people which is really just the way to see if you’re eating any outside food or drink. Restaurant was horrible - I sent my meal back 3 times. Been here any times and this one was major disappointment.
Okay so I waited a few days to leave this review to make sure I remembered everything. This was my first visit to RM and it will be my last. Rooms: TERRIBLE. I stayed at the Cherry house and the moment I opened the door to my room it smelled like mildew and wet cats. The room is extremely small and outdated. There was dust along the crown moldings on the walls. The beds are uncomfortable and pillows extra flat. The rug in the room look and smell old. They do not have irons, wifi, mini fridge, shampoo, hand soap, etc. in the rooms. They only left one towel and wash cloth despite the fact that the reservation was for two guests. These rooms are straight out of 1950 which would be fine if they weren't so dusty, and actually had the room amenities most resorts provide as a part of the service you paid for. Shower: tiny and the water pressure is horrible. I was in the shower for about 10 mins and the water literally began dying out until it was down to a light trickle. Luckily I was able to get all the soap off before that happened. Other people at the resort also had issues with no hot water and water pressure. Bringing it up to the the staff was pointless and ended up bringing undue and undeserved harm upon paying customers. Food: overpriced and not worth the money. Just order from door dash. Grounds: small. Not many places to walk around and enjoy the scenery. The "resort" is open to anyone so no matter what direction you try to walk in you end up on someone's property. Overall they were okay. The pool is clean enough. They need to lower the speed limit around the resort. Cars speed right through throughout the day. There are blindspots because of it being on a hill. If you aren't careful you can easily be hit, especially at night. Staff: cold and not very welcoming. One of them was kind. The rest were stand off-ish as if they didn't want to be bothered to do their jobs. The Hayloft: it's a barn with a bar. Pretty cool but don't waste your money on the drinks ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I ordered a margarita and it taste like syrup. The bar tender had an attitude about adding a lime as if that isn't supposed to be part of the drink. Besides those two things thr drinks ate cheap and it can be a good time. Cost: EXORBITANTLY overpriced for what this place is and has to offer. They can at least use some of that money theyte charging to shampoo the rugs. Don't waste your money The rooms don't live up to the photographs. Especially don't waste money on the tents or king rooms The tents are supposed to be giving glancing and its giving abandoned shack in the woods. I recommend coming here for a day trip just to check it out and knock it off your bucket list but to sleep here and spend days at a time, not worth the money AT ALL. use that money and go somewhere else where you'll get what you paid for.
The worst place to vacation at, definitely False Advertisement! Pictures & videos ain't like it seems. The rooms are small, water pressure sucks, toilet barely functioned, breakfast is just bagels coffee and orange juice it should of been more stuff but I guess that's what they can afford and the only best part of it all was the pool. We booked a Queen size bedroom & we got a FULL size instead SMH I know the difference in bed sizes.
I needed an inexpensive room for one night that wasn't far from NYC. Found this cute resort via Priceline. The only thing I missed when making my reservation is that my floor had shared bathrooms. There was a sink and tons of towels in my bedroom, but the bathroom was down the hall. If you don't like the idea of sharing a bathroom, then be sure to check if your room will have it's own bathroom this might be an option with some of the other rooms. The lobby and restaurant are beautiful. Much nicer than I expected for the location and price. Huge pool out back as well. Overall pretty quiet. I could imagine if there were a ton of guests partying late then there might be some noise carry over, but for me this place was perfect. No loud t.v. from or crying kids. No smoke of any kind. My room wasn't fancy and I always appreciate thicker comforters/ duvets, but I'm giving this place 5 stars instead of 4 because the gentleman at the front desk was super nice! He told me all about the evening's entertainment I went on Karaoke night and just made me feel welcome. Next time I'm bringing my swimsuit.
