Amazing hike and beautiful views. Van Slyke castle was a great spot to throw up the front for some beautiful panoramas! Trails were well marked and moderately trafficed. Lots of dogs running off leash far from their owners so be careful with your pets.
Great hiking state park with lots of trails. From easy trail around the lake to intermediate trail to Van Slyke Castle. There is an old water reservoir too.Saw few people fishing on the ramapo lake too. Well parking can be little challenging. You could also see the Manhattan’s Skyline if you zoom in your camera.
My favorite place to hike & swim in New jersey!
Very accessible and beautiful park with a cascading brook, lake, and the ruins of an old mansion. There are several marked hiking trails. Parking can be a challenge on weekends.
Great hiking trails! I went in the winter and it was still beautiful and fun.
The park police ticketed a whole row of cars in the parking lot after they parked that’s entrapment the park police should be ashamed of themselves families want to enjoy the park not ruin their day when they come back
Great location accessible from both Hiking Trail Parking Area along Skyline Drive and Back Beach Park in Wanaque. It has several trails with scenic views. If you walk down to Ramapo Lake from the roadside parking area along Skyline Drive, you can have access to several trails, one of which leads to the famous Van Slyke Castle or " Castle Ruins."
Love this place...can spend hours or days and still not see it all. Massive place. Always finding something new I haven't seen. Fishing on the lake. Abandoned cars in the wood's off trails. Jump offs. Cliff faces. Places to free climb. Little houses. Watch tower. I could go on and on. Parking gets tight on nice days but there are a few lots going up the mountain.
This park is beautiful in every way except for the parking lots. There are signs clearly warning people NOT to park in the center of the lot but every weekend people do just that. Law enforcement is clearly lacking. Many visitors are blocked from leaving until the illegally parked cars are moved.
Located in four NJ Municipalities, Ramapo Mountain State Forest contains various trails geared towards hikers and bikers. The trails range from easy to challenging. Make sure to stop by and enjoy the spectacular Ramapo Lake. If you are more adventurous, hike up and visit the ruins of Foxcroft or the Van Slyke Castle, which was built in 1910 by William Porter. Watch out for mountain bikers.
