Beautiful place to kayak and worth a visit. Not a lot of parking spaces, so be prepared to park in the grass. There are benches, an outhouse, a park for the children, and a place to enjoy a guided kayak tour. A friend and I have kayaked here many times, and I must admit, I have been reluctant to share my ‘secret’ oasis. Manatees are sacred here and are curious, sweet souls. Please do not touch them. I have seen dolphins, all types of birds, jellyfish, and of course, flying fish. Lol. Be prepared for one to hitch a ride, too, possibly. Oh, a picture of my Crocs?… because everyone hates them here.
We use this launch almost every time we go to the coast to go kayaking. There is no fee to park, or to use the launch. The park has at least 8 parking spaces for regular cars/trucks, about 4 or 5 long parking spaces for vehicles with trailers, and we frequently see vehicles with trailers parking on the grass, when necessary. We got there at about 10am on a Saturday and there was still plenty of regular parking, and 2 trailer spots still open. The park has a playground and *usually* has bathroom with running water, but this time they were closed. There were three port-o-potties, instead. There are two paved boat launches, and - if you go from the parking lot past the restrooms - there is a launch for kayaks and canoes that is unpaved gentle on the boats. The mangroves by this park are so much fun! If you're new to kayaking or mangroves there's a paddling trail that is well marked by white posts, which takes all the worry out of getting turned around in the trees. There are plenty of tunnels to keep you busy for hours, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND either staying on the marked trail, or bringing a phone/GPS to help you navigate back to the launch. It's really easy to get turned around. The tunnels are obviously shaded, but there are large patches of open water, so bring sun protection. We went in late December and the weather was PERFECT. The only downside which has never happened to us before was that - due to a cold snap a few days prior - there were a lot of dead fish throughout the mangroves. So...a little gross and smelly. Usually there are NOT a bunch of dead fish, so if there hasn't been a cold snap in the past week you'll be fine. On past trips we've seen dolphins and a bunch of brazen manatees. We didn't see either this time around, but we did see a ton of birds, mainly seagulls and pelicans. This really is a lovely area. If you're visiting from out of town you should check out La Catrina Mexican Restaurant a few miles north of the park. Everything is delicious, but my personal favorite is the Pollo Magarita! Happy kayaking!
Excellent location to put in with your paddle boards or kayaks. Took a right out of the ramp area and headed toward some canals and got to experience a dolphin during his feeding time and playing around near our paddle boards. Loved the area, only complaint is that their restrooms and watercraft clean up is locked on weekends and only open during the week. Most people, I would assume do their recreational activities on weekends, so that would be a plus if Brevard County would rethink that schedule.
What a blast! My 1st trip to Florida found me here with my sister & her family. I am so thankful for that time with family. We even had a small pod of dolphins follow us for a while.
We went fishing on our birthday weekend celebration. We had a great time here. The location is beautiful and you will enjoy the scenery for sure.
Great launch point for kayaks and canoes, and other small craft. Near the restrooms there's a ramp that's specifically designed for canoeing and kayaking launching and pick up. They recently removed a very special tree, I'm assuming because they wanted more parking space. Bad move, in my opinion. Great park otherwise. Perfect access point to the Thousand Islands. Lots of wildlife and pristine nature, and an island with a small ramp and dock for canoes and kayaks, and a trail wandering through it. Bring your camera!
It's a great park to visit. They have alot of amenities to offer. It's a place to spend the afternoon with friends and family for a day our of the house. They have a small boat ramp and plenty of benches to sit and watch the sun set. If fishing is your hobby then you will love this park.
This is a nice park to get into especially if you have a kayak. Good amount of parking when we went, there are patios and a small wooden pier like walkway in which you can go fishing. Great for kids, because there is also a small park. The area is in a neighborhood and I believe it's behind an elementary or recreation school. The place is fairly clean, their are restrooms that are pretty good. Fishing is mostly Catfish, pin fish, perch, and I'm pretty sure I've seen either blue fish or trevally swim by. If kayaking out into the mangroves, make sure you wear bug spray, also wouldn't step into knee deep of water. I got attacked by some sort of bug or mosquitoes on my leg, it's like some breeding ground in those outer lakes : But, overall a great place, we enjoyed time with our little nieces, they had fun riding kayaks. Note: I believe there is a place there that you can rent kayaks, however I'm not sure if you would need to rent in advance. We had our own kayaks that we brought.
Nice small park with a boat launch and separate Kayak launch located behind the restrooms. Good clean restroom. A wood dock that people were fishing off of and a tour boat came to pick up customers there too. Make sure you have a map and gps, there are wide canals and also some very small areas you can squeeze through in a kayak but it would be very easy to get turned around in the mangroves. These are all protected mangrove islands, no place to stop and get out of your boat. Couldn't see much in the water but saw lots of birds.
We visited here when chartering a 2 hour manatee tour. Park had direct access to the Banana River and clean public restrooms. We enjoyed the tour taking photos of lots of birds, manatees, and a dolphin.
