Perfect spot for a Potrero Chico rock climbing trip. The hostel is WALKING DISTANCE from many epic climbs, so you don’t need a car. My friend and I camped in tents on the large lawn. The kitchen, bathrooms, and pool are great for budget climbers. The view of the mountains from the pool is absolutely priceless. The place is owned by a sweet couple who personally took care of my friend when he hurt his ankle. 5-star service all around!
We stayed here two weeks for our rock climbing trip and had the best time. The room was Very comfortable. I loved having the option to eat at their restaurant or cook my own food. The lady working at the restaurant, Fini, was probably my favorite person here, she’s just so nice. The food was cheap and good. The owners were super friendly and really cared about making sure you were happy.
We had a wonderful time at Rancho El Sendero. We stayed in a king bed room, it was clean, the AC cold, the water hot! But what made the stay were the people. The staff and owners are incredibly kind and accommodating. They were patient with our poor Spanish and we really enjoyed getting to know them and spending time there. The place itself is relaxing and beautiful, and a perfect location to be able to walk both to town and climbing. We can't wait to come back!
The rooms and kitchen are great. Front desk service has been a tiny bit rude lately. Who knows maybe they've had too much work.Rooms: 5/5
Amazing accommodation option for climbers. They have both dorms and private rooms ACd. Additionally they offer free entry to the bouldering gym, laundry service, one can use the community kitchen, store food in the fridge and enjoy the pool. Great place to make new climbing friends. They have a little restaurant but there are also other food options not too far. Walk to Hidalgo for groceries might take 20-30min.
The welcome and check-in was fine. When we got to the room, the heating took a pretty long time to start we even wondered if we would have to go to the front desk to let them know it isn't working. Finally, the heating went on, the bed was unconfortable we felt the springs inside. We had towels and hot water in the shared bathroom. We were left with no toilet paper for a day, had to fetch it somewhere else on the site. The wi-fi was always asking us to sign in. On sunday we wanted to eat at their restaurant but they closed at 5pm which isn't written anywhere. For 55CAD a night, a bit expensive considering we shared the bathroom and the bed was bad.
My experience at Rancho El Sendero has been positively spectacular! The camping is around $5 US per night it's 100 pesos per night; if you stay for a total of 10 or more nights, the camping is 90 pesos per night. The hostel, which is quite nice, is 250 pesos per night. The community kitchen is very well stocked with cooking implements; the stoves are gas fired there's also a flat-top grill that's also gas fired. There is an adjacent kitchen that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus margaritas that are quite delicious for purchase. Lastly, the place is quiet, fairly close to Potrero Chico, and full of a very friendly community of climbers!
Great place to meet awesome people, have good community, and have fun! Would recommend staying here again!
Definitely worth your money and time. A short walk from the action and a comfy place to stay. The hostel rooms have built into the wall bunks which I liked more than any bunkroom I have stayed in before. The restaurant has cheap food that is pretty good and if you want to cook for yourself the kitchen has it all.
What a perfect place to stay while climbing in Potrero Chico! The communal kitchen is the real gem - extremely we set up and spacious. The people who run this place are very accommodating and nice! Bathrooms are always kept clean, and there is a large grassy lawn to pitch your tent if you don’t book the rooms. There are usually a few slacklines set up, and the people who stay here are really friendly. Definitely seems to be the quieter option in terms of accommodations; the other campsites seem to cater for shorter stays and more rowdy people. The long-termers seem to gravitate to here, and I can see why. Clean, quiet and friendly. Really can’t go wrong!
