Established in 1978 by Ramon Betancourt
My grandfather, Ramon Betancourt, established Raymond's Barber shop in 1978 after working at a different barber shop in the North Park area for six years. He cut at Raymond's for 21 years. My father Felipe Betancourt joined his dad Ramon in 1997. Felipe has been cutting hair since he was 18 years old, and has been around barbershops all his life. He once was a shoeshine boy at MCRD while my grandfather worked there as a barber. Felipe also shined shoes at a barber shop in Tijuana that was in between a bar and a gentlemens club. Myself, Javier Betancourt, had no idea I was going to be a barber. It just happened, and lucky for me, I have a niche for it. I love what I do. Like i tell all my customers, " to me it's not work" It's just hanging out with my dad, playing dominos, talking to people from all walks of life, asking questions about everything from everyone. Cutting up some nice haircuts with pride." It's an honor to continue the tradition of my grandfather and father.
