Realtors banding together to feed the needy
With distressed home sales dominating the market, many homes are left vacant while their fruit trees are left full of fruit, eventually rotting, and inviting unwanted pests into the neighborhood. In Orange County California alone, more that 615,000 people are at-risk of going hungry at sometime each month. Most are children and seniors. With some of the highest rents and morgage payments around, people in Orange County often need to choose between paying rent and feeding their families. The Realtors Food Bank Project's objective is to take these otherwise wasted food sources and put them to good use by donating them to a local food bank that distributes the fruit and other donated foods to nearly 400 organizations every month.
