Red Mullein is a fine arts and crafts shop that sells paintings, artisan jewelry, fiber art, antique porcelain, and handmade silk jackets from Japan.
We specialize in work by local artists--fiber art by Char Bickel, Marjorie Farrell, Marty Slayden, Clare Gengarelly; prints by Tom Woodruff and Denice Goldschmidt; paintings by Clare Gengarelly. We also carry artisan jewelry, including hand-forged pieces by Sandra Webster . We offer a large selection of vintage haori--silk jackets- -purchased individually from Japan. Each is unique, and they are gorgeous and in wonderful condition. Although these were traditionally worn by the Japanese over kimono, they look terrific over dresses and pants. Priced from $45 to $200. We have a small group of kimono. From India we have a selection of vintage saris and dupattas (shawls). This year we added a selection of hand-woven rugs from Mexico and hand-worked linens from Cuba, brought back by local author John Mitchell when Cuba opened up to travel from the US.
Red Mullein also offers hand-dyed yarns, the largest selection of 1920's Noritake deco ware in Mi. and many pieces of 1940's Roseville pottery, all for sale at reasonable prices.
