The Red Oak Library is located in the City of Red Oak, just south of Dallas, TX. We're just off of 35E, stop by and see us!
The Red Oak Library is located in the Red Oak Municipal building in a single room of 950 sq. ft. The library is open 6 days/40 hours a week; Mondays through Thursdays from 11am-7pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 1pm-5pm. Our collection contains approximately 10,500 items, including over 800 circulating DVD’s and over 100 audio books.
The library also provides public computer and internet access with 5 PC workstations and 5 circulating laptops that may be checked out and used within the library. There is one public-use table that provides seating for 6 people and one laptop which solely allows patrons to browse the online catalog. Additionally, there are two staff PC’s and two printers, one of which is dedicated to printing patron documents from public workstations and which can also send faxes. The library also maintains an online website, an online catalog, access to consortium reference databases through the state-funded TexShare program, and a Facebook page where event schedules and photos are posted.
The library provides weekly programming primarily targeted at young children. Ideally, library programming will expand to include a teen club, an adult book club, senior computer classes, and other all-ages programming. The biggest annual event hosted by the library is Summer Reading Club which runs for 8 weeks during the summer and provides crafts, games, outdoor activities, and reading challenges to children and teens. The library also provides a story time for young children and a Mommy & Me program which is aimed at toddler-aged children weekly. The library runs several one-time programs throughout the year, such as a Spring Break Mosaic Madness Event, Moon Walk Day, National Library Week events, and more.
The library appreciates volunteer assistance, and currently has several volunteers who help on a weekly basis with library functions such as shelving, discarding old materials, and setting up for weekly programs. The library also appreciates the assistance of the Library Board, which meets monthly to discuss current library initiatives and concerns. The library would like to start a Friends of the Library group and is actively seeking interested individuals who would be willing to lead that group to provide community support and fundraising for the library.
