Reds Restaurant Coxsackie N.Y. We are regular customer, last November we had our weekly lunch and was extremely disappointed so we decided to give Reds a few months break hoping for improvement etc. We returned for early dinner and again we were disappointed, the portion are skimpy, you receive 2 pieces of bread, prior times you would get assortment of bread, bread stick, flat bread. Ordered calamari and wow it was overcooked, mentioned to the waitress and she did not respond, strip steak was also a big disappointment, the quality of meat was tough, lots of sinew and fat, linguine with seafood, lobster tail was split in half and I could not find the other half ,shrimp was overcooked as well as the scallops ,clams and linguine portion was small. Reds was once a great place to eat and they offered great portions ,the waitress was not acceptable, she never once offered a correction. I was extremely disappointed and it will be awhile if we decide to give another chance. Customer frequent Restaurant for delicious, consistent food. Today was a extreme miss.$$$
Our family stopped into Red's on the way up north, looking for a local place near the highway for dinner. The place is nice and homey with a covered outdoor section and a walk-up boat for quick orders. It was a special wood oven pizza night, so we got 2 of them. Unfortunately our table agreed that the pizza needs work, or at least some garlic. The sauce and dough were bland, and the pizza could have used another minute or 2 in the oven. The seafood dishes we ordered were better, but we spent $163 for 4 people so it's not someplace we would visit often if we lived close by. I gave it 3 stars which means "It's Ok".
This was our 3rd time visiting Reds and probably last, we deal with the RV dealer just up the road and it is convenient to stop in for lunch. The decor is very different, some may call it nostalgic and some might call it damn old, my husband and I are at opposite ends of this debate. I had the Asian bowl and my husband the Surf and turf burger, both were pretty good, nothing to rave about. The brioche hamburger rolls are great though. The real complaint is the prices, our server asked if I would like rice or noodles with my bowl without saying it was $3 extra for the noodles and I added shrimp at $6 so a $13 bowl became $22. My husbands burger was $17 defiantly on the high side. Here’s the kicker we both got tap water with lemon and they charged 50 cents for the lemon wedges!!!
We were in town to attend a wedding and staying at the hotel down the road. We stopped here to grab lunch and we were very happy that we did. I had the lobster roll which was delicious!! My boyfriend had a fish sandwich but I forgot the name of it. It's the spicy one. He said it was excellent. The service and atmosphere was great too! I highly recommend Reds.
First time there and last, we both had the fish n chips, fries we good, fish not so much, very bland, which seems to be the norm for the 4 places we tried, I can definitely get better at Big Y which is a grocery store. Service extremely slow. For a seafood restaurant food was lacking taste, I felt the fish had been boiled first then deep fried. I am absolutely positive I will not be back, very disappointed.
I've looked at the pictures and reviews for a long time and haven't been clamoring to go here but I will say I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance inside. We were seated right away and our waitress and the bartender were pleasant and friendly. My husband and I shared a dozen oysters and wow. I've had lots of raw oysters in my days. These were fresh and large! My husband had the fried platter and was pleased but didn't love the bread crumb topping they cook onto the mashed potatoes. Odd choice. I love seafood and sushi and have never tried soft shell crab which was a special. You can get it sautéed or fried and I went for sautéed. Unfortunately I really didn't like it! Not the restaurants fault. It was a texture thing where I felt like I was chewing on a fingernail to get to the crab meat. I would love to go back on a Thursday for their $1 oyster and $20 bottle of preseco night!
Tried to like it there, went twice within one week. First time was fairly good, we ordered a lobster which was fine, and steak, which was slightly tough but tasty. They served Brussels sprouts which were seasoned, nicely sautéed and delicious. Went back again a week later, ordered twin stuffed lobster, was expecting them to be bigger but they still tasted good. Also ordered broiled haddock which was ok, was expecting or hoping to have the Brussels sprouts again but it turned out the vegetable this time was what seemed to be canned corn mixed with green flakes of parsley? Oh, and we were very surprised to see they charged us each .25 cents for one small lemon wedge on our water glass. Seems pretty petty considering we spent $149 on the bill. Waitress on second visit was friendly.
A cozy and atmospheric spot to enjoy seafood and Italian cuisine. Patrons have the option to dine indoors or outdoors looking at a green grass field. Quick and cordial service. Will definitely come back again.Food: 4/5
The food and service was excellent. The reason for 4 stars was because each of us 3 were charged 25 cents each for a lemon slice for our waters. I've never been charged for a lemon for my water at any restaurant. They weren't even big slices.Food: 5/5
