The food was good. The disappointment was with the portion sizes. The salad was huge I shared it with my two kids, but the $16 plate of spaghetti and meatballs was on the small sideabout half of what I was expecting for the price. The kids portions are probably good for 5 and under, but my not enough for my 7 & 9 yr old. My son was still hungry when we left.
I wanted to love this place. It started out great but it took an hour to get our entrees after our appetizers came. I got the linguine and clams. It was VERY salty and the clams were rubbery. My husband got the shrimp Alfredo and it was just ok. We were not offered bread until we were halfway done with our entree. The restaurant was not at all busy which is why we didn’t understand why it took so long. At $20 a plate, I think Red Sauce needs to step up their game. We left disappointed, that night, thinking we could have gone to so many other places that are way better.
Big portion sizes but a small and limited menu focusing on 6-7 classic Italian entrees. Food was decent but a bit basic for the price point, Nice wine list but very limited beer and cocktail selection. No sign of a happy hour.
Fantastic service. Very attentive, very family friendly. Would definitely come back. They seem to be responsive to reviews - we were a comfortable temperature, there was bread with oil served with our drinks, and a children's menu with reasonable dishes and portions.
I was really excited for Red Sauce to open and wanted to love it, but it was a bit disappointing for us. I'll sort this out into +/- +the good 1Pasta dishes were well prepared and very tasty 2 Ambiance was unstuffy and inviting 3Service was attentive - the not so good 1Serving sizes were small for us. This has been billed as a big portions/take leftovers home kinda place and it was not that for us at all. My spaghetti and meatballs were tasty but they were also $16 and I left hungry. My husband left so hungry he had to grab food on the way home. Maybe we're just bigger eaters, but we've never had to do that before after a pasta dinner. This was by far the biggest negative for us. 2Garlic bread was meh and still cold in the middle. Some plain, tasty bread for the table would go a long way here. 3No kids menu. We thought we'd be ok sharing our plates with our carb-loving toddler anticipating big portions but were instead doling out bites to her from our not so generous pasta portions. My meatballs were very tasty and dialed in for the adult pallette but pepper flakes made them a no go for the 2 year old. Kids menu would help this, especially for a restaurant geared to kids and families. In short, if you're a lighter eater and/or not trying to take kids to dinner here, it could still be a good spot for you. If Red Sauce increases portion sizes and makes it easier to bring kids here, we would love to come back.
I walked into Red Sauce in the Park Hill neighborhood this evening based on a recommendation from a friend. I have tell you that I have not fell more in love with a restaurant in recent years like I did with this one. From the inviting atmosphere to the home made garlic dressed red sauce smell filling the room. The cocktails are innovative and whimsical that are sure to please the most discerning mixologist palate. The menu is simple and condense, showing that they know what they do well and are sticking to it. This beautiful restaurant is worth the visit or seven. Call ahead as I came on a Tuesday early dinner and the place was full. Walk ins are welcomed but are you feeling lucky? Salud and enjoy #foodie #cheflife #mixology
Food was just ok. Service was kind but confused. They kept taking my fork after clearing each course, but never replaced it when food came back. So strange. They need to figure our if they are a relaxed neighborhood spot or more fine dining. Salads were the best thing we ordered. Garlic bread tastes like it has garlic powder sprinkled on it, calimari is ok. Pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, but sauces were a miss. Eggplant parmesan was one huge under seasoned, under done slab of eggplant. Puttenesca was so watery. Tasted like it was just a jar of olives, brine and all. Too one dimensional. The Fra diavolo sauce was too spicey but also just not good. I wish they wild give you an option of pastas when ordering. I wish I had gotten spaghetti instead of penne. Ambiance was nice, but I think food needs improvement. And that's coming from an East coast Italian American. My daughter's spaghetti and meatballs from the kids menu was better than any of our entrees.
Our second time coming here and these guys have really dialed it in since their first few opening weeks. Brought some friends and everyone was impressed with the food...it is classic Italian fare done right! Great addition to the Park Hill neighborhood!
Nice atmosphere, good service, limited menu with not so generous portion sizes for the high price, kids menu is expensive with even less generous portion sizes. Hope they expand the menu and either lower the prices or make bigger portions...come on Red Sauce it's pasta!
From cocktails to the fresh baked bread, the old world Bolognese, a true pleasure to find a great meal at a fair price. Originally from Pittsburgh PA, I am used to this cuisine, and wish them all the success in the world.
