Just driving through the city and found this place. As soon as we walked in we just got looks from everyone. I hate to say this but I dont know if its because the color of our skin or because they just don't care for non locals. People just kept staring at us. At first the older lady waitress was the same towards us but she got nicer the longer we stayed. She seems rude or mean but I think that's just how she comes across. I got a regular cheeseburger and my husband got the double meat cheeseburger with county fried bacon. Both burgers came with fries and they were very good. The burgers were very good as well even though the meat seems to be frozen patties. My husband loves extra lemons with his tea and finally we found a place that understands the meaning of extra. One thing we will say is be careful when paying. Make sure they are charging you only for what you ordered. They seemed to over charge us for something, not sure what it was though. The restaurant could use some cleaning up. Seems to have a lot of clutter in the back and all around.
The vibe here is like walking into your kinfolk's house for Sunday brunch. It has that small town vibe with friendly, down to earth staff, home style cooking, and the bench on the front porch is a nice touch. Pros: 1. The food is hearty homestyle cooking. 2. Staff is friendly and attentive 3. Prices are very reasonable. 4. The place is tidy both inside and outside including bathroom. 5. It's conveniently located right off the highway and near the flea market. 6. Wheelchair accessible ramp. Cons: 1. Parking in front of the building can occasionally be crowded and isn't paved with hard asphalt. 2. If you're looking for sleek, modern, sophisticated, this isn't it.
It's ok. I wouldn't recommend simply because of the steep price point for low teir food. $12.99!! I went on Wednesday during fried pork chop day. First, they used bone in fried pork chops so it was a little of a nuisance guessing where to cut because of the bone rather than going at a grilled pork chop. The Mac&Cheese was Kraft. 100% Kraft with added sliced or shredded cheese. Don't believe me? Look at the pictures. The white gravy tastes exactly like the packet gravy I used last night. Most of the pork chops were also overly cooked on their batter so the batter was super crunchy. Don't get me going on their glazed carrots. They were sitting in the broth when I received them which is fine because I expected them to be cooked. Instead they turned out to be warm, crunchy, raw, carrots. Be warned. This place is overly priced, there are plenty of better quality buffets to go to for an even cheaper price point in this area. Would have rated higher if the food quality matched the price point. Or, vice-versa. Price to quality of food. I would have paid 8 for this. I only got 1 plate and asked if I could only be charged for one plate because I didn't care for the food and they told me "no".
Went for lunch and soooo glad we did!!! Such a nice place with great people, love the country decor. And the food- oh my- just what we like! Good cooking! Had lunch special chicken fried steakand I asked before I ordered it was NOT pre made frozen- they hand battered themselves and it was HUGE!!! And delicious, as were the carrots and mashed potatoes. One of our new favorite places
Tasty meal in a home-like atmosphere. Enjoyed the Philly cheese steak sandwich. Hubby had the fried pork chops and they were hot with gravy on the side. One friend had an omlette and commented, "Someone knows how to cook eggs here." No scorching of the eggs. Buffet looked tasty and there was a steady stream of people coming through on a Sunday afternoon. Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp
We came in for brunch. I had been there before and was impressed by the food. Today I was impressed with the food and the staff. My son special needs ran into the smoking section after we were seated non-smoking. The waitress, Alexis, offered for us to sit in the part of that section where he was going and no one was seated there. I know it wasn't convenient for her because they were busy in the non-smoking section. She paused to assure me his behavior was ok and she knew someone with autism. I never feel at ease in public and she made me feel comfortable. After we sat, she took our drink orders right away. I asked her name and she politely asked for mine and said, "nice to meet you". They even had toys to entertain the kids while we waited. Alexis warned the food may take a little bit to get out they were busy but they exceeded our expectations. It came back much faster than a lot of places I go. My daughter ate all of her food and even some of her brother's. She's very picky and rarely eats what she orders. They made her egg whites just as she asked. She normally only eats them when I cook them. My dad got the buffet and the food was sooo good that we're planning on going back next Sunday in hopes they serve the same thing, so we both can order it. I had the covered wheel, which I ordered last time. They give me so much, it was impossible to eat all of it and it was incredible. At checkout, I accidentally gave the cashier an extra $20 that must have been stuck to another bill. She was honest and immediately gave it back to me. When we were checking out, I also noticed that the staff were friendly, helpful and playful with each other. If my dad hadn't taken me there, I would not have known this gem existed. Thank you so much and again, big props to Alexis. She's sunshine in a bottle.
I've been there twice and both times were really good. I will be back. Drove in from Louisiana over 80 miles the 2nd time.
This is an absolute hidden gem. Staff was so friendly, we were not aware that they were closing soon. And the still served us and never once rushed us. As for the food….my wife and I shared a mushroom swiss burger and fries. Hands down one of the best burgers I have come across. And the fries were so perfectly fried. This is a must visit for anyone passing by. Love coming across places like this.
In 30+ years of eating chicken fried steak in Texas, the best that I have ever eaten was at the Red Wagon Cafe: glorious.
Great comfort food. The mashed potatoes, gravy, and chicken fried steak are all very well made and delicious. There doesn't seem to be a lot of special recipes or spices, just amazing practiced homey cooking.
