Ave Maria! Amazing, it is peaceful and quiet. Don't go by yourself special if you don't know the area because we saw only two couples in our entire hike. My group and I had the park pretty much to ourselves but it is huge. The trees are gorgeous bring water and snacks because it is a long hike. Dress in layers even if it is 120 at the parking lot because the temperature drops to approximately 50's once you are deep in the park. Be aware of mountain loins/bobcats, coyotes, ect. Enjoy the peace that the place gives you. Please don't leave garbage or graphite on trees or rocks be respectful of mother nature.
This was a goood hike. Several options for length and loops. Down in the trees, a bit cooler. Or up a bit warmer. The trail is mostly very wide and relatively smoothed out dirt. They have working bathrooms at this place where you park and maybe 20-25 parking spots. Hike on!!!
Trails were really good although on the eucalyptus trail had a tree blocking most of it Dog-friendliness: Most dogs can go on the eucalyptus trail
Staging area for many different hikes in and around the Reinhardt Redwood Forest. Today we did the Stream, Mill, and French Trail Loop, a 5-mile moderately strenuous up and downer that goes right into the middle of the forest. There are signs but downloading the All Trails map made it easier to follow the path.
This is such a great park! There are Tons of trails and some are nice and shaded and relatively flat, while others are single track and steeper. There is a huge off leash dog area which is great for our 4 legged friends! It was a bit dusty and some bikers go fast, so stay on the hike only trails if you want to be clear of the bikers
Perfect view of the bay once you drive up and on the way to this staging area parking. We took Stream trail from the skyline gate staging area and it is a moderate level trail with beautiful redwoods and eucalyptus trees throughout. There are some steep inclines but not that bad if you are in a good shape. Only thing I didn’t like about this trail is that this park has few trails with dogs off the leash areas but on the trails where the notice says dogs on leash, people still had their dogs off the leash.
There’s not many places you can bring your dog on trails in redwoods, so this hike is high on my list of favorites in the East Bay! Plan your path in advance, there’s so many trails and you can end up figure 8’ing around a bit sometimes and end up doing a few more miles than you intended . Heading down from this parking lot to Stream trail is fairly gradual, wide, and not necessarily groomed but good enough for a couple of people I saw to take their strollers down. It’s about 3/4mi down until you get to the redwoods, then it’s a casual stroll on a wide trail through the redwoods. For the amount of cars parked in the parking lot, I was shocked at how few people I saw, especially once I started heading up the hills on the smaller trails. There were picnic tables down by the currently empty stream, and I bet early spring is such a great time to come back and see the stream and valley so full of life. The offshoot trails from Stream can be steep at times, but a great workout. Overall, family friendly hike for all ages, and of course, dog friendly. Happy hiking!
Beautiful trails, some are steep so bring walking sticks for downhill. A couple of recently fallen trees to climb over but the redwoods are so beautiful and peaceful. You can feel like you are 1000 miles away from the urban jungle. But...do we need the rain. So dry right now.
Beautiful redwoods. Gorgeous views. Unfortunately due to Covid 19 most trails closed. No restrooms. Still has a few designated trails for hiking. Few people on the road. Most observing face covering edict. A lovely place for a Sunday hike. Parking along street only.
Stream trail is mostly flat and shady. Surrounded by redwoods and pretty wild flowers. Plenty of bench and picnic tables to rest and enjoy some peace, breeze and fresh air. Looks like the park rangers take very good care of this trail.
