Reno-Cannon International Airport

Description

Reno–Tahoe International Airport is a public and military use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) southeast of downtown Reno, in Washoe County, Nevada. It is the state's second busiest commercial airport after McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. The Nevada Air National Guard has the 152nd Airlift Wing southwest of the airport's main terminal. It is named after Jesse L. Reno and Lake Tahoe.HistoryEarly yearsThe airport was built in 1929 by Boeing Transport Inc. and named Hubbard Field after Boeing Air Transport VP and air transport pioneer Eddie Hubbard. It was acquired by United Airlines in 1936 and purchased by the City of Reno in 1953. The August 1953 OAG shows 15 scheduled departures each weekday; ten years later there were 28. Jets (United 727s) arrived in 1964, but the airport didn't rate a nonstop to Los Angeles until 1969; a nonstop to Chicago began in 1970.The first terminal building was completed in time for the 1960 Winter Olympics held in Squaw Valley, California in 1960. The current configuration of the ticketing lobby and concourses were built in 1979. The airport received its current name in 1994 (which honors both the city and the nearby popular tourist destination Lake Tahoe), when the terminal was named in honor of retired Air Force Reserve Major General and former U.S. Senator Howard Cannon. Prior to that the airport itself was named Cannon International Airport.

Nice, clean, and fast luggage coming out. The airport is small but has interesting decor and cool looking stuff. The have slot machines to play while you wait for the plane. The rental cars are a nightmare. Don't go to Avis.
Smaller airport but very efficient, clean, nicely designed and easy to navigate. Gate agent was very friendly and helpful, and there are some restaurants including La Brea Bakery, Subway & McDonalds are past security. TSA agents are fast and polite. Plenty of restrooms and bottle filling stations at the terminals.
Smaller airport, yet very cool decor and super easy to navigate. Overall very clean as well. Just like Las Vegas, Reno also has slot machines located just as you step off the plane. TSA very simple to travel through. 4/5 s due to the ride share pickup area very difficult to find. It’s a bit of a walk outdoors and it was very hot I can imagine during the winter it wouldn’t be fun either.
The whole place is under construction. Getting in and out is not too bad as it's a smaller airport. A little more walking to get to the ticket counters. Will be much better when construction is done.
Nice clean airport. However, baggage is a wreck and needs an major overhaul. Every time I fly in to this airport it’s a 30 minute wait to get your checked bag.
Looks like someone got it almost right! Love when an airport restroom makes a space for your things so they don’t have to go on the ground. This restroom was sometime after TSA but I don’t remember where I think Marketplace. Be ready to play the slot machines when you arrive and depart! Give yourself plenty of time and money. Nice, friendly, helpful staff in the airport. AA had great agents helping and McDonald’s had a gentleman working both registers to get everyone’s order in. The only not great person I encountered was TSA PreCheck enrollment agent. I went to quickly inquire about an email and my mom’s status but she quickly cut me off and said “That’s not us…” and continued to tell me about Global Entry. I kindly redirected her and said, “No, it’s precheck…” and mention the situation. She did show me a laminated sheet with info and tell me I could take a picture but i just told her I would look online. But to cut me off and think it’s GE was just wild to me. Listen first.
August 2023. If you have a primetime flight when they say get there two hours early you better be there! And Still you may miss your flight! After checking our bags we proceeded to Security. There is no pre-check here, and only 2 ID Checkers and 1 body scanner!!! The line was outrageous and took over an hour in line!! We arrived at our gate and were standing at the gate with 3 people in front of us when they shut the door! Citing that “the Captain of Alaska Air Flight 2100 said to close the door”. We all asked why? The Stewart shook his head and said he’s the Captain. We were not charged to rebook due to TSA but not an airport you want to wait 3 hours.According to the Reno Airport the remodel will be finished “soonish”
Pretty spacious airport for such a small city. The gambling machines await travellers with extra cash and time. The interior is pretty fresh and nice. Some shops and restaurants are also available.
Unfortunately, it was a bad experience. No attendants were at any ticket kiosks except for Southwest. Our flight with Spirit was changed 6 times before being canceled. Then we purchased two more flights to depart with Southwest and that flight along with three others were delayed four times before departing at 12:12 AM. The Reno-Tahoe airport is going through a lot of construction without enough signs to inform travelers. One final important note. An airport security guard let us know, no flights are usually scheduled to depart after 8 PM. So if your flight gets delayed, the restaurants, machines and attendants are no longer in service.
Great small airport. Has one small Escape AmEx lounge. TSA is usually fast and relatively painless. Never too much traffic. Currently under construction, which limits the number of doors for entry/exit, but that’s temporary.
