Reno Stead Airport

Description

Reno/Stead Airport is a large public and military general aviation airport located in the North Valleys area, 10 nautical miles (19 km) northwest of the central business district of Reno, in Washoe County, Nevada, United States. A former military installation until 1966, when it was known as Stead Air Force Base, the airport's sole remaining military presence consists of an Army Aviation Support Facility and the 189th General Support Aviation Battalion of the Nevada Army National Guard, flying CH-47 Chinook helicopters. The airport is owned by the Reno Tahoe Airport Authority. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a general aviation reliever airport.Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, this airport is assigned RTS by the FAA, but has no designation from the IATA (which assigned RTS to Rottnest Island Airport in Rottnest Island, Western Australia).

Reno airshow. Really fun experience seeing the planes and air races. Lots of planes, BBQ, and beer. There is always something going on whether it's watching planes racing or walking in the pits and getting a close up of the race planes. Bring lots of sunscreen, a good hat, and walking shoes.
Bring good walking shoes, money, and sun screen. You'll be walking around a lot, you better get a souvenir and you don't need skin cancer. If you love aircraft then this is the place for you, even when air races aren't going on you can watch helicopters and planes land, take off and do drills. During the Air races groups such as the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, and the F22 Demolition Team will make an appearance. Overall a great experience. Just know that the busiest days will be Saturday and Sunday when more people are off of work. Traffic will be crazy all day long and expect to pay for parking. Parking will cost between 10 to 15 dollars for the day subject to change. Please don't be rude to the locals. Enjoy yourselves and most importantly have fun.
Had a great time at the air races! Easy parking, plenty of food and things to see!
Bucket list check off! Loved every minute at the pylons!
Back in 1960 my UNITED STATES COASTGUARD BAND OF THE PACIFIC stationed in Alameda California, Government Island Coast Bass was asked to perform a change of command ceremony, and we were bussed from Coast Guard Bass Alameda to Reno Nevada to perform at that change of command ceremony at Stead Air Force Bass. We were all dressed in our dress blues with bloused cuffs, black highly polished black shoes and white braids on our shoulders. We also wore our bright white spats, commonly known as leggings. I was the head Drum Major, and my Coast Guard Band performed admirably. The entire Air Force regiment marched in the Pass and Review to the sound of the United States Air Force Fight Song, and an original drum cadence. It was a very impressive sight to see all of the units in full dress uniforms marching past the Bass command and their compliment of officers. The Coast Guard Band of the Pacific had performed on most of the aircraft carriers based in Alameda, and Oakland California. The Coast Guard Band was also invited and flown to Seattle, Washington for the Seattle Sea Fair, where we marched in the Sea Fair parade and performed on live tv in our dress white uniforms. I originally formed the Coast Guard Band Of the Pacific while I was at Government Island in boot camp, with the Bass Commander’s blessing.
You've got to be kidding me. The jet that keeps flying really low over my trailer home isn't right. It's scaring my animals and I'm sure my neighbors as well. Can't you keep them planes over your airspace.
Every year I've gone to the Reno Air Races had a great time the airplanes the food t-shirts things to buy you name it great people check it out if you're there in the area in the third week of September you'll love it
