While the stay began strong with great service in helping with a crib for my niece, the room left much to be desired as I killed several cockroaches on the first night of the stay. I let this slide as I had to spend the time with family during our quick stay. Breakfast was fine and gave a variety of options. The bigger issue was customer service after I asked for clarity on an up charge which we found out was a "sold out" rate. As a frequent traveler, I am aware that these exist; the issue was that I didn't know it was part of the rate until I checked out. The website and Marriott app billed it as one rate and I had to click through back to the site form the confirmation email to see that the rate had changed. The hotel just kept saying that I should have read the fine print which was not present in the initial email but was several clicks away. When I explained I just wanted to alert them of this, the response was "we communicated this upon reservation." Overall, I understand the logic; however, the customer service and empathy was completely lacking and not represented of what I expect from Marriott after a decade of loyalty to them. So, cockroaches + sub-par customer service = check out the other hotels in Lake Norman area.
Bad experience due to room issues. Spent one night, got in late, so just went to bed. As bathroom is right next to bed, heard toilet valve running all night, had to close the door to the bathroom. Worst part was next morning, got up early to shower, found shower head spraying water everywhere, so had to wrap it in a facecloth to keep it from hitting the ceiling, and found bathroom literally flooded with water. Used extra towels to get most of it up before it ran into bedroom, thinking maybe it was from shower head. However close inspection showed a water running out of a hole in the wall onto the floor. Wow…big leak behind tile issue. As result both my wife and I had to take a “navy shower” turn water on…get wet…turn water off. Soap up, turn water on to quick rinse, turn water off, etc. Needless to say, really irritating, and we just made it work rather than get dressed, get packed up, go downstairs, get another room, unpack, shower, pack back up. When we informed the clerk about he huge issue on checkout, she just said she would have maintenance look into it. When I explained I paid for a room that should have had a workable shower, she said “well you got a senior discount, so that’s that” like my discount means I can get a room with issues and it’s ok!. Horrible issue with no resolution from the hotel. After leaving, called Marriott customer service, they said manager would contact me within 5 days…did not happen…no contact, no response, nothing. Update- did eventually get a response from the owner, who apologized and said the staff was talked to. Unfortunately this kind of response does nothing for the person who experienced the issue. When there is an issue, people don’t want a “we will fix it for others”, they want a “what can we do for you to make it right”. Big lesson in customer service here… Would I go back…never! Would I recommend…absolutely not!
Very nice Residence Inn located next to Birkdale Village. Great location near Lake Norman. Rooms are clean, breakfast served is decent, and staff are friendly. Really nothing to complain about. Certainly your money's worth here for a Residence Inn by Marriott. We will definitely stay here again.Rooms: 5/5
Room was very clean and spacious, bed was comfortable, no complaints. Ms. Cynthia handles their breakfast and is extremely sweet and helpful, couldn’t be better. She also gave us some good tips on places to look for renting/buying a home. For well under $200 a night this turned out to be a great choice for us.Rooms: 5/5
The breakfast was lacking every morning. Breakfast was served thru the week 6am to 9am we got down for breakfast around 8am and there was very little there to choose from. Only enough eggs for a spoon full for the two of us each day. We were there for 5 days.Rooms: 4/5
This is the first one star I've ever provided, and as a small business owner, it doesn't feel good. I've given the General Manager and Assistant General Manager an opportunity to discuss live and there was no response. This review is solely being made in hopes I get a call back and can later delete. I had a hotel reservation booked for two months and was told 5 days before checking in that my room was given to a larger company and I was no longer able to stay there. I am extremely disappointed in how careless my reservation was handled, the lack of empathy or concern for how this impacts my travel plans, and the overall customer service.
This hotel needs a complete overhaul. Rooms are dreary and worn, carpet is threadbare, kitchenette is a mess, bathrooms are creepy, toilet sounds like a plane landing next door, televisions don’t work properly and go on and off. The staff is great and couldn’t be more helpful but their hands are tied. The location is great. We’ll never stay there again. We are staying at the Residence Inn Northlake. Great property, well maintained, clean and comfortable.
The rooms need to be updated. The carpet is old, furniture is old and dated and have a faint odor. Front desk staff and cook are very pleasant and personable. Housekeeping staff are not helpful. Best part: Hot coffee all day long. Located in a very nice area.
Place was nice but like 1980s vibe. Needs update to heat/Ac and more USB charging areas as USB ports are in lamps ,clocks, and also convenience outlets so they should do better. The hotel is overpriced in regards to old interior. Still one of the cleanes hotels I've visited!!
The hotel is what I expected. The room is a little dated. And not the best sound insulation. But it was clean and comfortable. Just what our family needed for the night. What got me to take the time to write a review is the staff. They were all so friendly and helpful! Checking in later at night both my husband and I recognized the woman at the front desk was above and beyond friendly and helpful. Mrs. Cynthia was the woman in charge of breakfast. She was attentive, friendly and it was all very clean. We we’re very impressed. Then checking out this morning was all great. If you want to experience great customer service this hotel is full of lovely people. Thank you.
