I recently joined this gym and truly have been enjoying my experience . The entire staff is friendly and helpful. Everything is so clean, the location is convenient and it's a fun, comfortable atmosphere with affordable prices. I'm impressed by the variety of classes offered and can't wait to start working out with one of their awesome trainers!
I have been a member for a few years now and find it the perfect place to work out. They have a great set up of free weights, machines, treadmills etc. and enough of them to get a great work out in no matter how many people are present. The staff is excellent and helpful and the facilities are well maintained. I’ve also used their personal trainers and have not had a problem.
Retro fitness sucks!!!! I’ve been trying to pay for and then cancel my daughters membership for months. My debit card was hacked so I had to get a new number and before I realized , it was delinquent for a couple of months. I tried to do it online or call but that’s not possible, after its delinquent you must go in and pay. Now it’s in collection so I showed up to pay and cancel and i can’t pay there because it’s in collection. So I asked , if I paid on the phone to the collection agency now and give you the confirmation number then you can cancel it? Nope.... In fact I can’t get confirmation that her membership is canceled for five days after I make the payment. So I asked the manager if he would just sign a note verifying that if I make the payment to the collection agency and call or return with the confirmation number in five days that he would cancel the relationship and he adamantly refused! Refused to put in writing only what he was telling me is the policy!! I’m not so comfortable giving my new debit card information. I will send a check, the old fashioned way I guess but BEWARE if you ever want to quit the gym!!!
Great all around gym this gym has given me power and muscles. Equipment is always clean. Staff are always friendly. Whoever the owner is of this gym is excellent at what he does and provides for us gym rats. This gym is the gym to be at. Energy is excellent vibe is great. Machines are great. People are great. Also this gym also has a movie theater man if you meed to lose weight or gain muscle make sure you stop by RETRO IN BAY SHORE If you need a gym RETRO FITNESS IS THE PLACE TO BE AT. THANK YOU RETRO STAFF!!!
Decent gym and affordable. The free weights are usually packed and have to wait in order to use the equipments. doesn't help that there is a pretty big space in the middle of the gym that's empty. Additionally, all the free weights are positioned awkwardly especially the chest bench press, the aisles are pretty tight and isn't friendly towards tall people... accidentally tripped someone while working out on a chest bench press. The protein shakes are pretty good not sure of the health benefits but it seems decent, I haven't seen anyone speaking negatively on them. Since you get points every time you sign in you can them up for a free shake, though I haven't used my points on a shake yet. Overall you get what you pay for, far better than Planet fitness imo.
I have been a member of Retro Fitness Cortlandt Manor since it opened. Having been at many, many gyms over the years, I have to say that Retro provides top notch group fitness classes-for a fraction of the price that I paid at other gyms. Highly recommend trying out the group fitness classes! The new management staff is very focused on making changes that the MEMBERS want to see.
The staff are excellent. this is a great place to go and work out and be yourself without being judged. I usually go during the weekdays at 5 am. Many of the members there at that time have the same frame of mind as me; Get a good workout before work so it makes everything nice and easy.
I workout seriously everyday and enjoyed retro except the staff that ruined it. I moved over 8 months ago and have repeatedly called to cancel my membership and repeatedly nothing was done. The manager alfero is extremely rude and obviously doesn't care about the customers that make retro fitness what it is. Never once did I even get a reply after emailing him the proper documentation. Now over 8 months that 160$ of incurred expenses on my end that I can't get any assistance on recovering or cancel long. If you're serious about working out and need a environment that reflects that, this retro fitness Is not for you.
I would not recommend this gym to anyone. My friend came with me one day to show me how to use some of the very intimidating weight equipment and the manager accused her of being my personal trainer, he was so rude with the way he addressed her that she wanted to leave. I called to speak with him to address his behavior and all he could tell me was there were signs all over the gym and that another retro fitness was sued and lost because of a situation like this. In all honesty being in customer service this could have been handled in a manner with more respect. Not once has he apologized for his behavior, I asked to cancel my membership and have been denied. I have asked to speak with the owners and have not received a call. I have no desire to work out in a facility that is rude to its members and guest.
They are a scam. I spoke with their representative Britney and told her that my mother had opted out of continuing with the gym since February, she said that they do not have any record of that. My response was ok. I would like to cancel the membership now July 16, 2017. She said that I would still be charged for the following month August 2017. I was irate about this. But said that it must be their policy. Today September 11, 2017 I am recognizing that I was still charged by the gym. I called and Britney answers the phone. I tried to be as calm as possible with this lady. I explained to her what occurred before. She responds by saying that she has no records of me canceling the account from before and she proceeds to ask whether or not I would like to cancel the account now. I told her that is exactly what you asked me the last time and I responded in the affirmative. The lady hung up the phone in my ears. Horrible experience!
