Love Retro Fitness of Howell, from the moment you walk through the door, you are greeted with smiles. The facility is spotless. Plenty of machines and staff on the floor for assistance Zach and Jessica are always more than willing to help or answer any questions - trust, I ask a gazillion!! Justin is the absolute best trainer I have ever had. He is extremely patient, knowledgeable and explains every exercise, why we are doing it, and what muscle group it works. Justin is dedicated to his clients and truly cares about their well-being
About a year ago I was working out and had some trouble with my lower back. My legs went into shock and I couldn’t move. The retro staff helped me up and carried me all the way to my car to make sure I was okay. A month or two later I signed up to train with Justin. He really helped me get back on the right path to taking care of myself. Great atmosphere. Genuine people.
UPDATE: Upon posting this review, assistant manager Kayla emailed me a few days later to resolve the matter. That is very appreciated. I was able to look back in my email and did see that I received ONE singular email stating that Jackson branch was closing and my membership was being automatically transferred to Howell, but nothing about the email stood out from their standard promotional emails and I maintain there should have been a greater effort to communicate this, physical mail and multiple emails. I maintain that Retro contracts are written in a highly unfavorable way for consumers, but that is standard in this industry so I suppose I can only be so bothered by them specifically. I'm finally free at least! ORIGINAL REVIEW: Please understand that when you sign a membership with Retro Fitness, you are agreeing to being charged essentially literally indefinitely unless you take very specific action. And the way the contract is written, they can close the location you originally signed up at I signed up in Jackson, I've never once step foot in the Howell location. and just move your membership and keep on charging you, again, indefinitely. I understand that this situation is my own fault because I did not understand the contract I was signing, and then didn't cancel my membership when I could have, but also, when they sign you up, they make no effort to explain the full insane reaches of the contract to you, and no effort to contact you at any point throughout this process. And now they've sent me to debt collectors. It's disgustingly anti-consumer and scummy. I know Retro is hardly alone in how they structure their contract, but that doesn't absolve them of guilt of these awful practices. I'm sure the gym itself in Howell is great; I wouldn't know, I didn't sign up to be a member there, and yet I am now. For that they get a one star, sorry but not sorry. I will probably literally never sign up for a gym again as long as I live unless it is an actually consumer-friendly contract that I read every word of, and I suggest you do the same.
I come here every morning almost everyday and has been a part of my “home” for a month now. Although I just love the chocolate pinacolada protein shake from the bar, that’s not the only reason why I come here. I come here to work and to heal!!!
Amazing gym that has everything you need to achieve your goals. They have a turf area and deadlift platforms!
Retro Howell is a pretty cool place to work out in. A lot has changed since management and staff changed but that is to be expected when other gyms close and there is an influx of new members. I feel that the Howell Retro staff do their best to accommodate every gym member despite their other responsibilities training, management, etc. This gym just got a bunch of new equipment and also provides wipes to sanitize the machines and equipment before and after working out. As an adult who attends this gym, I don’t see why others find it an issue that the staff require members to clean up after themselves… I mean we are adults lol. I feel like the staff are really nice and always make my gym experience fun. Going to the gym is supposed to be fun so I don’t see where any negativity would come from regarding this gym. If the gym is too crowded, don’t workout during peak hours. If you use weights, re rack them. If you sweat all over a machine, wipe it up. Go to the gym, workout and leave. It’s pretty simple! I feel like if everyone practiced patience and consideration they’d have better experiences at the gym. Overall, I feel like everyone is doing their best despite these crazy times and Retro Howell is a great place to workout in.

From the moment I walk through the doors for my consistent early morning workouts greeted by the smiling faces of Kayla or Mike, this gym has everything I need for a solid gym experience. The gym staff led by Sharon and Zach are incredibly knowledgeable, care for their members and keep the environment safe and CLEAN. The equipment is all functional and well maintained, unlike other big gyms in town. I’m happy I made the switch several months ago to RetroFitness of Howell.
