AVOID. you’ll have to send a certified letter to cancel your membership. Good with a variety of equipment and enough treadmills for everyone. Only down side is the water fountain. It's old unfiltered water tap water that tastes terrible. Given that you're not going to bring enough water with you, you're forced to either drink it or buy bottled water which is highly marked up.
Very friendly staff, and the place is always clean. Enough machines and free weights to everyone. People are very respectful to each other. I always feel like I’m home. Strongly recommend this place
Just joined yesterday to tryout for 4 days. But yes very friendly staff and patrons too who helped adjust the machine. It was not at all crowded between 7:30 and 8:30 PM. I like the parking lot outside which is huge and so is the gym. One can definitely workout without any issues. I will definitely join this Retro fitness soon. Hope that the service level still continues to be the same in the future. I will re-post a review after 3 months, Thanks !
Been to many Retro Fitness locations in NJ with the Flex membership. The state of equipment at this one is by far the best. Barbells are not rusted, and plates actually slide on/off easily unlike the old junk at other locations I've visited.
Despite being a dedicated customer for 8 years, I was treated poorly by the staff and manager. A simple request such as change of home gym to a new location cannot be achieved at this location despite 2 in-person requests, several phone calls, and an email to the manager. Apparently, the manager does not respond to your first email due to bunch of emails and sends message via staff that he is busy preparing for a presentation for the company. Such poor treatment of loyal customers who help you run your gym and on whom you should be focusing first! Still waiting for a response. I am still being charged monthly and unable to attend gym at the new location. Highly disappointed customer :
I train at Retro in the mornings from about 10 am. The staff is great, always a smile and greeting and the place is immaculately clean. I have a closer Retro to train at but I come here instead. Nick the manager/trainer is a wealth of training knowledge and is always willing to give you training tips or advice, he's the best. The people are friendly and the place is state of the art, nothing better. I'm a lifer here!
You will read about the facility being nice and the staff being pleasant but what you won't read about won't effect you until you try and cancel your membership here. Do yourself a favor and google "retro fitness cancellation", then google "<any other large gym> cancellation". This won't effect you until you want to leave, but better not go here at all. I went in, in person you need to show up in person and signed some cancellation forms you still need to pay one more month. I was later charged for an annual membership $52.25 no one talks about this fee. I called to clear up these charges. I was told that my account could not be found. I was shouted at, and interrupted when talking on the phone to Jordan at least he said his name was Jordan. He told me to call back when I can "act like adult" mind you I'm a calm person. He asked for my name, then proceeded to read it back to me reading out a word corresponding to each letter of my name, he gets to 'L' and says "L as in liar", I mean seriously Jordan, this is really unprofessional and down right insensitive. I asked Jordan to speak to a manager, "He is in the hospital" Which I later found out was not true. A truly terrible experience dealing with this Retro Club. After hanging up the phone here I called ABC Financial, I was informed that the cancellation paperwork was never submitted. I was also informed that the manager was in fact there. After a lot more talking I was informed that the charges would be refunded I am still waiting on this.
Equipment selection is pretty excellent. 3 stars because: -Water fountains are unacceptable, you practically have to put your lips on the spout to get water. -Not enough 10lb plates and bar clamps -A stand for extra barbells would help Edit: water fountain is still sporting a measly 0.5" water spout, the sinks in the bathroom are barely functional, and equipment frequently has loose bolts- dumbbell rack came entirely loose a few weeks ago, holding 800lbs in dumbbells. That would've been an excellent lawsuit if it fell on someone's foot.
You need to train your front desk personnel. To speak to clients in a more professional manner. I am not impressed with your facility. Due to business in the area I visited your facility twice---no friendly greetings. This last time I felt like was being "talked down to" when I checked in. Like I was a seven year old! Told I have to have temp chked and fill out Covid form....all well and good.. you don't COMMAND clients! we pay good money to you...you talk to us in a professional.manner.
