The Rhode Island Oceaneers 1974 Professional Soccer Club Returns 40 years after winning the American Soccer League Championship.
Why support the new Oceaneers. This years squad was formed after a late request to enter the team in the League this year. The ownership of the Club selected David Borts a local Administrator and member of the New England Soccer Hall of Fame to lead the Oceaneers back to the glory years of the 1970s as Club President. The Club will follow a path of dynamic and organized growth over the next two years as it brings back professional soccer the the Providence and Southern New England sports scene. The first signing by the Club was its outstanding up and coming coach Jasir Charis who follows in US trend of hiring young dynamic coaches such as Jason Kreis, Caleb Porter and Jay Heaps. The Club is in negotiation with a number of local players and has declared its goal of being the team of the community.
