This place is so calming and I really enjoyed visiting everyday during a Rambert Ballet School Intensive. Deer park is not far and if you get the chance to watch the tide rise and fall in a day it’s a fun experience. Lots of people enjoying their dog walks and I even watched a few boats, barges and canoes pass through once the lock was lifted.
Slightly run down part of the River Thames at Richmond. Not terribly attractive and lots of noise from planes landing at Heathrow. Richmond Lock is an impressive engineering feat and is one of the most iconic Thames River landmarks on this stretch of the river. It is well worth a side trip from your walk towards Kew and beyond. What a magnificient piece of Victorian engineering, a lovely piece of history! The locks are in regular use. It’s quite an awesome sight if you’ve never watched a lock in operation. The lock-keeper choreographs the whole process. .. and watching the boats navigate the locks in a disciplined manner, simply awe-inspiring There are pleasant riverside walks in both directions and cozy cafes in Richmond and at Iselworth.

This is a great place for a relaxing stroll and to get away from the hustle of everyday life, it's also great for getting from one side of the river to the other! The beautiful old Weir bridge has some great views when you are crossing over it. This is a beautiful part of a Riverside walk which I recommend if you want to escape the city for a bit without having to travel too far.
When you're on the bridge, you can see how the lock working to adjust the water strength. Very interesting
