Rick's Boatyard Cafe

Rick's had such promise! Rick's has a fantastic location on the river walk, a moderate walk or short bike from the Old Market, it's connected by pedestrian bridge to Century Link Center, has ample parking, a deck bar with live music, good menu, and it sports a nice layout and look. But after four visits we left kind of disappointed. The food has been hit and miss. One time my meal was quite good, but my wife's had been left under the broiler for so long it was mostly a dried out rubbery crust of its former self. A manager agreed, but rather than deduct it from the bill he threw in a free desert, then somebody else told us 15 minutes later they were out of the one we ordered. Another time they served us the right main course but wrong sides on both plates, and neither meal was flavored much. Service has ranged from very attentive and helpful, to ignored/forgotten for 30 minutes at a stretch. I still think Rick's could be fantastic, if they dial in the basics of good service.

We were seated 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. A young man who obviously was never trained as a server, asked us what we wanted to drink. At this time we ordered and I ordered an additional side salad. the meals showed up by someone other than the server. We were almost done eating when we finally got his attention to get us more to drink. Wow!!! he never came back on his own. I told him I no longer wanted the salad I asked for before the meal. His statement we are having kitchen problems. now its my problem I think the place is a cool atmosphere but that is it. We eat out almost everyday and have had some bad experiences but never have I been irritated enough to write a review. Stay away !!! over priced terrible service
