The purpose of the programs in the Arts and Cultural Division at Rio Hondo College is for students to earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree and to prepare students for upper division study at a four-year college, university, or art institution. Secondary objectives include portfolio preparation for vocational training programs and, eventually, the opportunity to obtain a vocation. The Continuing Education Department is committed to providing the extended community with accessible life long learning opportunities within the fine and performing arts.
Arts and Cultural Programs is made up of two departments: Visual Arts and Performing Arts. The Visual Arts programs include: ceramics, photography, art history, painting, drawing, 2-D and 3-D design, digital animation, and graphic design. The Performing Arts Department encompass the music and theater arts programs. A technical arts/digital media department is also being developed and will overlap both areas and include computer animation, electronic music, graphic design, video and film, digital photography, and theater technology.
