Beware: Frequently slow, inconsistent in service, and occasionally rude. I've been a customer of the pharmacy at this location for several months and will be finding another immediately. Via phone, the staff are curt but also slow to answer questions. As a result, I have spend at least a couple hours on the phone trying to rectify the mistakes the pharmacy has made in billing my insurance. Most recently, I have made several successive trips to this location to pick up a prepaid, already filled prescription. Each time, the line has been too long to wait. Further, on my most recent visit, when I asked a front desk associate if there was a change in circumstances causing the delay, that associate answered with a diatribe about how there was global pandemic. This associate spoke to me as if I was unaware of the concept, which was both a snide and dishonest answer to my question. It was dishonest because while there is a pandemic, something is else certainly occurring when pharmacy wait lines balloon to over fifteen people over the course of a month. Regardless, given the incompetency of the pharmacy and general unpleasant-ness of my interactions with this location, I'm finding another pharmacy immediately and will satisfy my over-the-counter needs elsewhere.
Hey vaccine guy, you are new to this pharmacy, you should learn better. You should never be unkind and unhelpful. If the website says walk ins are welcome for Covid Vaccine and all you have to say is "we are not longer doing that" is totally harmful for the pharmacy. I have received excellent service by your co-workers and because how you treat me with no compassion or consideration sounded like you are single me out, choosing not to give me the vaccine. How about next time you say, "I am sorry that I can not provide the service at this time". Learn to treat people and then look for a job.
The pharmacy staff has always been friendly and helpful. It is unfortunate they’re beholden to uncaring corporate masters. My biggest complaint is that they keep the bathroom doors locked and the store staff are very slow to come unlock them. As someone with small children this can make my visit to rite aid problematic since children often wait to the last second to inform you of their bathroom needs. On multiple occasions I’ve had to abort my trip to rite aid pharmacy to find a place with more easily accessible bathrooms. If the reason for locking the doors is to keep the homeless people from using them then that is appalling.
I want to take a minute here to defend the pharmacy staff at the W 29th Rite Aid. Do they provide excellent customer service? No. Is it effective service? Also no. But do they at least pretend they don't hate the customers and their jobs? No, they do not. But what can we expect from them? They are not the ones who are drastically understaffing this pharmacy, so much so that people regularly have to wait 40 minutes or more to pick up a prescription. They are not the ones who decide that the pharmacy will close 3 hours earlier than the time that is clearly posted on the Rite Aid website and stated in the pharmacy's phone message. These poor employees have to spend their days dealing with folks who are often very angry, if not also in pain and possibly danger because they can't get their medicine. Of course they're rude! But they're not the ones in a position to change how awful this pharmacy is.
This store is clean and easy to navigate. The sales associate, Joshua, did a fabulous job serving multiple customers at once. He entertained those of us in line while we waited and gave each person personal attention at the register.
The pharmacy service here has become so bad it’s almost surreal. First, I went in person to get a refill on my sons medication, and I just never heard back, so I went in and checked again, and the person didn’t know what I was talking about, and I had to start the process all over again. The next person told me to come back at 5 o’clock the next day, and I did, and the person there had no prescription filled and no idea what I was talking about. I just came from my fifth in-person visit to the pharmacy to have another prescription filled, after being told several times that it hadn’t been ordered and to come back on a certain day, only to come back on that day to have the whole scenario repeat itself. I was quoted two different totals, and again today, the pharmacist seemed to have no record if the other four times I’d been in trying to get the prescription filled. It’s bizarre, dangerous, and extremely unprofessional. Implement a better record keeping system, or something, this is not okay. For awhile I thought the other mess ups and hassles were due to COVID short staffing or something, if they could at least create a better system of communication within the pharmacy to offset the changes.
I have no issues with this place generally but just a heads up to others that I made a covid booster vaccine appointment a process that took 15-20 minutes on the computer with various forms and uploading my insurance information. Then I was notified that the appointment was cancelled. I made another appointment, going through that lengthy process again. Today I arrived to get my booster and was told by a pharmacist that the store has cancelled all vaccination appointments through Jan 15th today is 2nd. I received NO notification via email that my appointment was cancelled. Instead, I received repeated reminders for an appointment today even though it was actually cancelled. Very odd and I'm going to look for a booster elsewhere.
Review of the Pharmacy I am ambivalent regarding the rest of the store Won't be going here again! Absolutely comical levels of failure on what I can only assume involved a series of miscommunications or an entire lack of communication between staff. I dropped off my prescriptions one day, emphasizing the two complications regarding them, one being that they're very similar looking but not exactly the same. This complication had come up in the past at every pharmacy, I've learned to be prepared as an issue so I wanted to nip it in the bud so I could avoid future frustrations. What I said may have just went in one ear and out the other. Either way, the end result was me showing up two or three days later after having requested a refill for a third medication. Nothing was ready, which was unexpected as they made no indication that I'd have to wait multiple days for the two prescriptions I'd dropped off prior. I brought up the fact that I got a text implying I couldn't get one of my medications for another month, which I knew wasn't true. I was told they'd have it I probably should've clarified the word "it" with them ready after their lunch sometime. That worked fine with me, though I didn't get the opportunity to show up until the next day, when I immediately turned around upon seeing a line that went through half the length of the store. I ended up seeing the same size line on both my attempted visits the following day. Very glad I wasn't rushed. The next morning I decided to just go in and be there for the 9am opening. There were eight people in line including myself before they opened at 9:05am. Five minutes is whatever, but I got up to the front of the line at around 9:20 only to find out that the one medication they had prepared for me was the simple refill I'd requested. The prescriptions I'd dropped off 5+ days prior had not been filled, and in fact no one had attempted to do so. For a good minute or two they claimed I'd only dropped off one prescription until they finally searched for the second and found it. Best part? They claimed my psychiatrist had screwed up and written the same prescription twice. After contacting my psych I have confirmed this was not the case. That means they filled a prescription and gave the paper for that prescription back to me, and kept the paper of a prescription they didn't actually fill! Truly tied for the worst screw up I've seen at a pharmacy, and I've seen quite a few. The best part about them thinking they had two of the same prescriptions best part of the best part is that they should've responded when I brought up the text that implied I wouldn't get a medication for another month. That was what that text was about! Anyhow the final 30 minutes of my experience was me waiting for the pharmacist to fill one of the two prescriptions I'd dropped off, handing me the other one back and leaving with those. This took a full hour in total. 9am to 10am. I immediately requested all my remaining refills to be transferred. I would never even consider returning, and basically every pharmacy I've been to has been slow and has had screw ups.
FOR RX - YIKES! I wish I read the reviews sooner and saw understaffing and, thus, poor service, has been an ongoing pattern for over six years. Foolishly, I've wasted months of mental energy, and time - so, so, much time - putting up with this pharmacy, just because of its "convenient" location. Despite my naiveté, the service hasn't brought me to complaint, until now. Probably because the convenient location, but there are also two lovely, longer term employees - the pharmacist & pharm tech. unfortunately, RiteAid seemingly leaves them to scramble. In the past WEEK, I've had four negative experiences, on different days, with at least two different employees one situation was true understaffing, and was out of the employee's control.. Here are brief descriptions: 1. When calling in to fill a prescription a refill, for an rx I've taken two years now, and without change I was told the pharmacy was out of the medication my doctor prescribed. I then asked if the pharmacy had an estimate refill date, or if there were any other nearby pharmacies that might have the medication. I was told the following - this is an exact quote: "No. And I've looked at the database and all pharmacies across the state are out of [medication]." Safeway down the street has my medication right now. Thx for shaming me, lying, and ultimately also causing me to go days without medication and also have to embarrassingly follow up with my doctor's office, multiple times. 2. On the retail side: When in line, to check out, I overheard a customer asking about the LITERAL line out the front, just for the pharmacy. He wondered if the line is always like that because every time he comes it seems that way. So, me also being frustrated with this pattern and wanting more info, I took my chance to ask if there was a best time to come. I have a flexible schedule - I was told the following: "Yeah, 5 years ago. It's a global pandemic, everyone needs the same medications at the same time. It's like the DMV now, you gotta plan your day around it." I responded with a suggestion: "okay well maybe like the dmv, you all could have people take time slots for picking up their rxs." We customers are calling to get these rxs filled, after all, so we could easily get assigned a pick up time, right? ALSO, some people's health, wellbeing, and sometimes literal survival depend on medication - and I know COVID is not the reason there are only 2 people behind the counter - please do not use a global crisis as an excuse for corporations being slimy per usual My suggestion was immediately shut down and I was told "this is a retail pharmacy, we don't do that." Okay, fair. Overall, negative stars. I actually think this rite aid location should just be closed if it can't be fully staffed because people here just get salty. Also - I could have literally walked out of the store retail side, after waiting in line for multiple minutes and in the middle of the day. FYI around 10/11am if you do make the poor choice to come here.
Are there any plans at all to address the staffing issues at the pharmacy? For months now it has taken 1+ hour to get through the pick up line. This is not a slam against the actual pharmacy workers as they do their best.
